CNN reporter Dana Bash has recently faced criticism over the stark difference in how she interviewed with Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance compared to one with Vice President Kamala Harris. A video was shared to X, showing how Bash grilled Vance but appeared to have a much friendlier, amicable discussion with Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz.
Conservative critics have pointed to this as a primary example of how the mainstream media has been incredibly biased toward Republicans, especially former President Donald Trump, in recent years. Particularly as the upcoming election draws increasingly near, left-leaning news networks such as CNN have been blasted for not pressing Kamala Harris with more challenging questions that are relevant to voters.
During the Vance interview, Bash employed a much harsher critical tone, where she and the Ohio Senator had tense disagreements on various topics. For example, Bash immediately jumped into criticizing Vance, right as the interview began. “Thank you so much for doing this senator, appreciate it. So you guys seem to be struggling with the new dynamic,” she said.
This is a sharp contrast to how she treated Harris and Walz, whom she spent considerable time thanking and praising before beginning the interview. “Madam, Vice President, Governor Walz, thank you so much for sitting down with me and bringing the bus. The bus tour is well underway here in Georgia,” Bash said to Harris and Walz.
Furthermore, Bash lambasted Vance over various policies and stances, while she appeared to take a softball approach to Kamala Harris’s inconsistencies. “How should voters look at some of the changes that you’ve made, that you’ve explained some of here in your policy? Is it because you have more experience now, and you’ve learned more about the information. Is it because you were running for president in a Democratic primary?” Bash asked Harris, even giving her possible answers.
The popular X account Amuse shared the clip contrasting Bash’s treatment of Vance and Harris, maintaining that she was a “completely different reporter” between the two interviews, drawing into question her journalistic integrity. “It’s almost like Dana Bash is a completely different reporter when she coddles Kamala Harris and grills JD Vance. Watch…” the caption read. Another person echoed this sentiment, writing, “The world would be so different only if the media was fair and not bias.”
Illustrating how evident the bias is, another person commented, “I don’t know how anyone with functioning eyes and ears could take in that video and still fail to recognize that there is a double standard in play in their dealings with candidates.” Another user pointed out the apparent bias from Bash, claiming, “She’s an activist, not a journalist, CNN is fake news.”
“It is so unfair and unprofessional to give different standards to people in the same position that deserve the same standard, it gives the public an unfair view and an unclear view on the candidates,” another person added, blasting the bias toward Republicans in the media. “A large percentage of D voters would disappear if the media wasn’t propping up their candidates and cutting down R candidates,” another user added, illustrating the impact the media has on public opinion.
“This is why many of us never watch MSM. These are not journalists. They are just propagandists for the left. I just want news! Not their spin, or opinion. They’ve been programming people for years. They cannot hide their disdain for anyone who doesn’t agree with them,” one person said, showing how the mainstream media has lost the trust of many Americans.
Others pointed fout Bash’s conspicuous ties, pointing out that her husband was involved in dismissing the Hunter Biden laptop story as “Russian disinformation.” They implied that this gives her a political motive to oppose former President Trump. “Well, her husband was one of the 51 “intel” officials who signed the letter saying the laptop from hell was Russian Disinformation. If Trump gets in, hubby will have problems,” the user said in the comments section.
