In another absolutely infuriating and ridiculous case of media lying, the far-left “Mediaite” website was caught claiming that Dan Bongino had admitted to taking money to spread false claims, something that he had not actually said. Bongino caught the website in the false claim and went nuclear, skewering it for telling such an obvious tall tale.
As background, the incident Mediaite tried using to claim that Bongino admitted to lying was one in which he and Hannity discussed his past as a podcast host and what he had argued about the DC January 6 pipe bomber. In the interview, Bongino said that he had been paid in the past to give his opinions, whereas right now he is paid to be Deputy Director of the FBI, and so he doesn’t think it is appropriate to share his opinions in the same way.
Mediaite tried to frame that as him having admitted to lying in the past to garner more views for sharing his opinions. The Mediaite article, which was complete clickbait, was ridiculously titled, “Bongino Stuns Critics With Frank Admission on Fox News: ‘Says He Lied For Money And Will Likely Do It Again'”.
Despite being formatted as if that quote came from Bongino’s lips, it was really a quote from a tweet included in the article, one which completely mischaracterized the interaction and what Bongino had said. That tweet came from media reporter Joe Perticone, who shared the clip on X and commented, “Deputy FBI director says he lied for money and will likely do it again in the future.”
In reality, what Bongino said was that right now he cannot give his opinions but only the facts, saying, “Listen I was paid in the past, Sean, for my opinions. That’s clear. And one day I will be back in that space, but that’s not what I’m paid for now. I’m paid to be your deputy director and we base investigations on facts.”
Continuing, he noted that the leftist media had promoted the Russia Hoax, saying, “And it was interesting, I was looking into the crowd today at the presser and I saw a couple of media figures who you and I both know, promoted the other scandal, the [Trump-Russia] collusion hoax.”
Building on that, he noted that the difference between the right and left is that the right is willing to honestly examine facts, saying, “And I thought to myself, ‘the difference between us and them is, we evolved as information and new inputs comes out, we can produce different outputs because that’s what we believe in.’ We believe in facts and investigations guided by facts.”

Bongino, posting about the media outlet’s total lie about what he said in a fury-filled post on X, said, “Take a second to read this headline, and then read the actual quote from the article. It’s why the Russia hoax persists, to this day, in media circles.” A commenter on his post angrily declared, “WOW. Perfect example Dan- no wonder it persists – ALL THEY DO IS LIE! 🤬”
Other commenters noted things like “They know exactly what they are doing when they bury the be truth” and “The media will do anything to distract from the disaster, which is the Democratic Party. They work daily not to bring us honest news but to save the Democrats behinds and cover up their awful policies and scandals.”
