The Trump Campaign didn’t hold back in a statement released after he was indicted by Fulton County, GA, District Attorney Fani Willis, arguing that her attempt to prosecute former President Donald Trump and his key allies over 2020 is acting in a politically biased way and that she won’t succeed because Trump won’t surrender.
The statement, which was not attributed to one individual and instead came from the 2024 Trump campaign generally, both attacked DA Willis personally, addressing what the campaign thinks her motives are, and connected the effort to the Biden Campaign.
In one section, for instance, the statement from the Trump campaign derided Willis as a “rabid partisan who is campaigning and fundraising on a platform of prosecuting President Trump through these bogus indictments.”
It also argued that her attempts to lock up Trump were meant to hand the 2024 election to the Democrats and damage former President Trump’s campaign, though it also said that the attempt to do so would fail. “Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign. All of these corrupt Democrat attempts will fail,” the statement said.
The statement reemphasized the ability of the indictment to unfairly shift the outcome of the 2024 election, saying, “These activities by Democrat leaders constitute a grave threat to American democracy and are direct attempts to deprive the American people of their rightful choice to cast their vote for President. Call it election interference or election manipulation—it is a dangerous effort by the ruling class to suppress the choice of the people. It is un-American and wrong.”
Former President Donald Trump, for his part, told Fox News, “The racist and corrupt district attorney of Fulton County, which has turned out to be a murder capital of the world with among the highest violent crime levels anywhere in our country, just opened a fundraising site in order to benefit off the things she most campaigned on, ‘I will get Donald Trump.’”
He too insisted the indictment was meant to interfere with the election, saying, “This politically-inspired indictment, which could have been brought close to three years ago, was tailored for placement right smack in the middle of my political campaign, where I am leading all Republicans—by a lot—and beating Joe Biden soundly in almost all polls.”
Trump also noted that Atlanta is going to hell in a handbasket and Willis seems intent on sending America down the same dark path, saying, “Just like she has allowed Atlanta to go to hell with all of its crime and violence, so too has Joe Biden allowed the United States of America to go to the same place with millions of people invading our country, inflation, bad economy, no energy, and lack of respect all over the world.”
He added, in an interview with Newsmax, that he would never stop fighting, saying, “I’ve put everything on the line — and I will never yield. I will never be deterred, and I will never stop fighting for you. Never. If I wasn’t leading in the polls so much, we’d have no difficulty.“
