One of the most iconic, essential bands of the last half-century has announced its farewell tour. Aerosmith, fronted by legendary showman Steven Tyler has been a mainstay on rock radio for half of a century. Tyler has also remained visible on social media and television, having been a judge on American Idol, among other things.
The band gave details on their Instagram. This is what they said via The Daily Caller:
“PEACE OUT! After 50 years, 10 world tours, and playing for over 100 million fans… It’s time for one last go!” the band wrote to Instagram before announcing the special guest that will be joining them. “Aerosmith PEACE OUT with special guest The Black Crowes! Fans will see one of the most significant American rock bands in history one last time during this not-to-be-missed final tour.”
The Black Crows are a significant addition, as they broke out during the hair metal era playing the type of music Aerosmith was famous for, eschewing the big hair and bombast of the time period. The tour starts in September in Philadelphia and ends in January in Montreal, Canada. The band continued:
“Every night will celebrate the five decades of Aerosmith’s groundbreaking hits as they celebrate 50 years as America’s greatest rock band,” the announcement continued. “In addition, THX will bring their THX Certified Live! high-fidelity experience on the road, calibrating each arena with leading-edge technology so fans don’t miss a beat of Aerosmith’s classic rock tunes in quality audio.”

Many bands and artists, including Kiss, Motley Crue, and Ozzy Osbourne, have performed countless “farewell” tours, only to come back eventually and tour and record again. Aerosmith has clarified that a “peace out” isn’t necessarily a goodbye but rather just an end to touring. That is understandable, considering the longevity of the band. Thus the significance of the THX experience will serve to aid the sound quality and help the band put on the best possible sounding shows. The band also said:
“It’s not goodbye it’s PEACE OUT! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives,” Aerosmith said in a joint statement.
“The tour will also offer a variety of different VIP packages and experiences for fans to take their concert experience to the next level. Packages vary but include a premium reserved ticket, a personal photo opportunity with band members, limited edition merchandise and more!”
With meet-and-greets, special packages, and photo opportunities available with Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Brad Whitford, for rock fans, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a perfect way for Aerosmith fans to see the band one last time.
At least until they decide to tour again. Not saying that will happen, but there certainly is precedent, and if the tour is a smashing success as it should be, who knows? For now, it’s “peace out” from Steven Tyler and the boys. The tour kicks off on September 2 in Philadelphia.
