A Mexican actress recently died after participating in a spiritual cleansing ritual where she consumed venom from a poisonous frog from the Amazon rainforest. Reports indicate that 33-year-old Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez participated in the dangerous cleansing activity that is practiced by South American natives to rid the body of toxins.
However, after consuming the poison, Rodríguez reportedly began to throw up and have severe diarrhea. As her condition began to worsen, the actress sought medical help, but was unable to be saved. The Mexican production company Mapache Films addressed Rodríguez’s death on social media describing her as a “beloved colleague and friend.’
“With deep regret, we mourn the death of our beloved colleague and friend, Marcela Alcázar Rodríguez,” the company said. “Her passing left an immense emptiness in our hearts and in our professional community. Her dedication, joy and commitment left a profound mark on all of us who had the privilege of working beside her.”
Mexican investigative reporter La Tia Sandra posted about the incident on X, writing, 📍 Actress MARCELA ALCAZAR died in the early morning of December 1st around 1:50 am at the Moyocoyani Center, located in #Durango . ❌ It is a LIE that she drank the POISON. Relatives claim that MARCELA did not drink any potion, but that her skin was burned with a hot stick, and the so-called #Kambo was spread on the wound (made with toad venom)
Sandra offered additional details about how the actress supposedly ingested the venom. “Marcela became intoxicated upon receiving this therapy and suffered from diarrhea and vomiting. However, instead of helping her immediately, they never called for medical help or the emergency authorities. On the contrary, they threatened a colleague who tried to take her by her own means to receive medical attention,” she wrote.
However, there is alleged speculation about the true circumstances behind the actress’s death. “Friends of Marcela demand that the truth be told, that the place where Marcela was killed be known, that there be no impunity, that compliance with sanitary standards for this type of place be verified, as well as for Jonathan, who heads the ritual and operates in various states of the Republic,” the post added.
One Mexican X user commented on the tragic death of the actress, “This is with all the seriousness that the case deserves: Why do they ask to review the rules after and not before? Isn’t there enough podcasts, series, documentaries, news to identify pseudo-whatever? We seek well-being but easy, cheap and for someone else to be responsible…”
Offering their knowledge of the process that killed Rodriguez, one person wrote, “Kambo is obtained from a sacred frog from the Brazilian Amazon, I believed it was and it is what is applied to the wound. It is not an entheogen, but it does cleanse the body of toxins. First you must drink water and be on an empty stomach. These applications are done in the morning.”
