Following the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris last week, there has been substantial criticism regarding the incessant fact-checking from ABC News moderators David Muir and Linsey Davis. The Trump campaign recently released a statement fact-checking the claims about Trump’s remarks regarding crime rates, that the Muir, the mainstream media, and Kamala Harris have disputed.
Karoline Leavitt, Trump Campaign National Press Secretary, asserted that the fact-checkers were wrong, citing new data that has been released. She said, “FACT CHECK ALERT! More evidence released today proves David Muir, Kamala Harris, and the mainstream media are WRONG about their false claim that violent crime has not risen under the Harris-Biden Administration.”
Leavitt cited statistics from the Department of Justice (DOJ) that illustrated the massive spike in crime rates for violent offenses since President Biden and Vice President Harris have been in the White House. “According to the Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey released today, violent crime is up 37%, rape is up 42%, robbery is up 63%, and stranger violence is up 61% since 2020 during Kamala Harris’ time as Vice President,” she added.
Leavitt warned that Vice President Harris stepping into the White House would be nothing short of disastrous for the crime trends in America, blasting her progressive, “weak-on-crime” agenda. The press secretary for the Trump campaign claimed that Harris supports radical policies such as defunding the police and allowing no-cash bail.
If Kamala is given another four years and the chance to implement her weak-on-crime, defund the police, no cash bail policies, America will continue to turn into a crime-ridden hellhole for illegal immigrants, Venezuelan gangsters, and drug dealers. ONLY President Trump will restore law and order, protect our police, secure the border, deport illegal immigrants, and prosecute criminals to the fullest extent of the law. If you want to be safe, VOTE TRUMP.”
The press release listed newly released crime statistics from the DOJ, which paint a concerning picture regarding the state of crime in America. According to the National Crime Victimization Survey:
- Violent crime: +37%
- Rape: +42%
- Robbery: +63%
- Assault: +34%
- Aggravated assault: +55%
- Simple assault: +29%
- Violent crime excluding simple assault: +55%
- Domestic violence: +32%
- Intimate partner violence: +29%
- Stranger violence: +61%
- Violent crime with an injury: +10%
- Violent crime with a weapon: +56%
- Property crime: +8%
- Motor vehicle theft: +42%
- Other theft: +8%
Conservative commentator and former Fox News host Megyn Kelly also sounded off on how the ABC News moderators conducted the debate, who repeatedly fact-checked Trump but never questioned the validity of Kamala Harris’ statements. Kelly claimed the entire debate was a “three against one” attack on former president Donald Trump.
“I’m disgusted. I’m ashamed of those moderators at ABC News. They did exactly what their bosses wanted them to do. The person who runs ABC News is a close personal friend of Kamala Harris and is responsible for Kamala Harris and her husband meeting. They did Dana Walden’s bidding tonight. It was three against one on that debate stage this evening,” Kelly said.
“It was three against one. It’s very easy to look like you know what you’re doing when both moderators are entirely on your side. Trump did the best he could under the circumstances, but it really was like three fighters in the ring pummeling one opponent, and Trump tried to take them all on. He did fine. He did the best he could. He was thrown off a few times, to the point where he was unnecessarily defensive and getting angry. And so was I. Were you?” she added.
