The failing woke disaster of Disney continued its downward spiral, delivering a notable round of layoffs as CEO Bog Iger makes good on his promises to slash 7,000 jobs – many of them in managerial and leadership roles – and save an estimated $5 billion in future costs.
Disney’s bottom line woes are being attributed to its overtly woke politics and productions. Last year, it took a stand against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ parental rights bill that banned teaching various topics to the state’s youngest students. DeSantis has since revoked their special tax standing and sovereignty.
Disney has also churned out one disgusting show after another, each of which has bombed at the box office or on its streaming platform. In 2022 alone, Disney lost hundreds of millions of dollars on Strange World, Lightyear, and Turning Red, and its Marvel and Disney units have gone woke beyond salvation, ruining some of the biggest IPs in modern history.
All of these intentional, awful decisions have led to the planned firing of thousands of people. “Among the notable staffers let go Monday are Jayne Bieber, senior vp production at Freeform/Onyx Collective; Mark Levenstein, head of production and postproduction at Hulu; and Elizabeth Newman, head of Disney’s acquisitions department,” The Hollywood Reporter noted this week.
More layoffs are expected to occur at the end of this week and an even larger round of layoffs is being planned for April.
CEO Bog Iger released a memo earlier this year announcing the hard times coming for the folks accustomed to cushy corporate gigs at the woke dumpster fire.
“For our employees who aren’t impacted, I want to acknowledge that there will no doubt be challenges ahead as we continue building the structures and functions that will enable us to be successful moving forward. I ask for your continued understanding and collaboration during this time,” Iger said in his memo. “In tough moments, we must always do what is required to ensure Disney can continue delivering exceptional entertainment to audiences and guests around the world – now, and long into the future.”
Iger said in his memo that the April cuts will be “larger” than has been seen already and that he anticipated “several thousand” employees to lose their jobs. Further reductions to staffing will be made in early summer to achieve his stated goal of 7,000 closed positions.
To the wokesters in Disney: Was it worth it? Notice that Iger gets to keep his fancy gig and millions of dollars in compensation and you’re the ones getting tossed to the streets for being the expendable, useful idiots of the regime.
Iger, Joe Biden, and all the other champions are safe in their offices and homes, whereas the frontline activists are now being forced to distribute their resumes to other companies likewise bracing for an economic slowdown. Good luck with that.
Iger’s full memo began with “Dear Fellow Employees” before dropping the following hard news, writing:
As I shared with you in February, we have made the difficult decision to reduce our overall workforce by approximately 7,000 jobs as part of a strategic realignment of the company, including important cost-saving measures necessary for creating a more effective, coordinated and streamlined approach to our business. Over the past few months, senior leaders have been working closely with HR to assess their operational needs, and I want to give you an update on those efforts.
This week, we begin notifying employees whose positions are impacted by the company’s workforce reductions. Leaders will be communicating the news directly to the first group of impacted employees over the next four days. A second, larger round of notifications will happen in April with several thousand more staff reductions, and we expect to commence the final round of notifications before the beginning of the summer to reach our 7,000-job target.
The difficult reality of many colleagues and friends leaving Disney is not something we take lightly. This company is home to the most talented and dedicated employees in the world, and so many of you bring a lifelong passion for Disney to your work here. That’s part of what makes working at Disney so special. It also makes it all the more difficult to say goodbye to wonderful people we care about. I want to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to every departing employee for your numerous contributions and your devotion to this beloved company.
