A dad in Gainesville, Florida shot dead his daughter’s abusive ex-boyfriend after the abusive ex allegedly assaulted her in her apartment then came back to inflict even more suffering upon her.
Apparently, the ex had shown up at the apartment and beaten the girl and then left. After the girl’s father found out what happened, he arrived with his pistol. The ex-boyfriend then came back and was taught a lesson in manners by the girl’s father, though he likely didn’t live long enough to internalize it.
The Gainesville Police Department gave a few more details in its statement on the incident, which it posted to Facebook. In that post, the police department said:
UPDATE 3/18/2023: Earlier in the evening, GPD responded to a domestic battery. The suspect was inside an ex-girlfriend’s apartment and physically assaulted her. He fled the area prior to our arrival. The victim’s father also responded.
Approximately 30 minutes later, the suspect returned and made entry into her apartment. The father, who was armed with a handgun, fired one shot at the suspect which struck him in the chest.
The suspect fled and arriving officers discovered him next to his car. They started CPR until EMS arrived who pronounced him deceased. At this time, the investigation continues.

Police are on the scene of a fatal shooting located in the 23-hundred block of SW Williston Road. Officers responded to the Polos Apartments at 9:30 and discovered a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.
Residents of the apartment building were shocked by both the violence and the shooting. Once, for example, said, “Everyone I speak to here is so nice. I come and I work out here every day, and everyone I interact with is so genuine and kind, so it was one of those things where it’s definitely out of the blue.”
Similarly, another resident said, “I thought that you had the wrong Polos or something. I have nothing but good things to say about the university and the city in general, and especially the Polos Apartments. Never really had anything like this, so it was pretty shocking.”
Fortunately for the father, the incident took place in Florida, which is more amenable to the private use of deadly force in such situations than most blue states. For example, when thugs broke into a Florida man’s home and he fought them off with a stream of fire from an AK-47, the local sheriff said:
“When the victim unlocks the door, two of the males push him into the house and attack him. The third male pulls a handgun from his pants and waits outside. The victim’s pistol fell to the ground and was picked up by one of the invaders. The victim ran to the back room of the house where he had another firearm and began firing at his intruders.”
“He started shooting for his own protection, to get them out of his house and to protect himself.”
“The homeowner’s protecting himself. And in Florida, in Escambia County, you can protect yourself.”
“If someone breaks into my front door, barges in and attacks me or my family, they are going to get shot. I afford that same consideration to the residents of my county.”
