Legendary 90s hip-hop star Mary J. Blige exploded on a booing fan at a residency show on October 28 at the Dolby Live Theater located at MGM Resorts, going on a bizarre rant that is now going viral all over social media. Witnesses who attended the show said that Blige was halfway through her two-hour set when someone in the audience started booing.
Cameras continued to roll as the singer addressed the person and demanded they leave the building, which was all captured on video and shared by TMZ. “To the b—- that’s booing, you didn’t have to come here!” Blige yelled from the stage. The unruly fan interrupted while Blige was mid-song and she made it clear that she wasn’t going to have that nonsense at her show.
“I hope someone sees you and politely removes you,” Blige added. She then took the fan to task for investing their hard-earned money into a show, only to cause problems and be a pest once they showed up to the event. “The f**k are you spending your money for — idiot!” she yelled at the fan. Blige then took her attention off the disruptive fan and issued an apology to other fans who witnessed the exchange.
According to a report from The Daily Caller, Blige then resumed the show and brought out a special guest just 20 minutes later. The guest was none other than fellow hip-hop legend Wyclef Jean, who not only had a successful solo career but made music with Lauryn Hill and The Fugees back in the 90s. Jean and Blige have been friends and collaborators for many years.
It’s not clear what caused the concertgoer to become so upset or if they were booted out of the concert for their behavior. This isn’t the first time in recent days that Blige has found herself in headlines. She recently signed a very lucrative catalog deal with Primary Wave Music. The company describes itself as “the world’s leading independent publisher for legendary music.”
Primary Wave Music (PWM) announced the partnership with the nine-time Grammy winning artist, stating they would be working on “compositions and recordings” from her 15 studio albums. Yahoo News stated that the details of the deal, including information about finances, have not been released publicly as of this writing, the wording in the official press release points to the partnership pulling songs from as far back as her 1992 album “What’s the 411?” and some on her 2024 album, “Gratitude.”
The deal provides Blige with the ability to make use of PWM’s marketing and publishing services. Natalia Nastaskin, the company’s chief content officer, stated that working with Blige on her catalog was “an honor for me and for our entire Primary Wave team.” The PWM family also includes legendary artists like Andre 3000, Britney Spears, and the late Whitney Houston. During a performance on Halloween night, Blige paid tribute to Michael Jackson by performing his smash hit, “Thriller,” the perfect song to celebrate Spooky Season.
