Two of the country’s most popular investigative journalists, James O’Keefe and Cameron Higby, have been slapped with felony charges by radical left-wing prosecutors in Minneapolis, Minnesota over their video exposing vulnerable loopholes in the state’s elections. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty leveled accusations of “try[ing] to sow doubt about Minnesota’s secure voting systems” against O’Keefe 42, and Higby, 26.
The pair captured footage on camera of Higby going into several polling locations in Minnesota during the primary in August 2026 while wearing Muslim garb as part of an effort to demonstrate how the voting system could be abused by registered voters being able to “vouch” for another individual from the same precinct’s eligibility.
According to information gleaned from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website, a legally registered voter can vouch for up to eight other people. In the video, Higby can be seen walking into a polling place sporting a burqa over his face to show viewers how election workers were going to let him cast a ballot in a woman’s name while vouching for O’Keefe, who was going undercover in his own disguise.
“Mr. O’Keefe and Mr. Higby filmed themselves and posted the videos to social media to try to sow doubt about Minnesota’s secure voting systems,” a press release from the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office went on to say, according to a report from Breitbart News. While neither one of them actually cast a ballot in the election, both have now received charges of unlawful voting and identity theft, according to Moriarty.
It’s worth noting that Moriarty has financial connections to leftist billionaire George Soros. “If you identify as a journalist, there is no such thing as undercover investigation in the polling place,” the prosecutor explained during the press conference. “You have to identify yourself as a journalist in the polling place, which they did not do.”
Moriarty then claimed that the charges have nothing to do with O’Keefe and Higby having conservative political views. “It is not against the law to be offensive. It’s not against the law to say the things that they said if you’re standing outside the polling place. So, no, we can’t let people’s political bent or whatever they’re here to do affect our decisions in deciding whether to issue felony charges,” she said.
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon released a statement on the matter, saying that polling places “are the heart of our democracy and as such should be places of safety and peace.” Simon concluded his statement by saying, “Any attempt to disrupt or deceive our election workers will not be tolerated. We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for holding these individuals to account.”

However, back in August, Simon had some harsh words for both men, saying, “The misconduct by this group is outrageous and totally unacceptable. We have zero tolerance for lying, lawbreaking and disruptions at our polling places.” Higby has issued a response to the charges brought against him by starting a fundraising effort on social media.
“This is lawfare. They want to scare all independent journalists who may challenge them. This is FASCISM,” he wrote. In a follow-up post on X he wrote, “Fascists lock up journalists.” He later referred to Moriarty as a “vile, disgusting coward.” As of this writing, O’Keefe has not released a public statement addressing the charges.
