Longtime Fox News Host Opens Up on Retirement Plans as Speculation Grows

Popular Fox News personality Steve Doocy has opened up about his future plans with the network, revealing that, as of now, he has no plans to retire, despite having stepped away from his position on the iconic “Fox & Friends” couch a little over a year ago. Doocy, a conservative, turns 70 on October 19. During an interview with TV Insider, the veteran host made it clear that his run with Fox News is nowhere near the finish line.

In May 2025, Doocy shocked viewers of the hit morning talk show by announcing that he was leaving his regular studio position after almost 30 years on the program. However, despite the announcement, Doocy wasn’t leaving television. Instead, he packed his bags and headed from New York to Florida, where he fully embraced a new assignment traveling across the nation and talking with normal, everyday people.

Over a year into his new assignment, Doocy says he has no intentions of riding off into the sunset. “My plan is just to keep going and do exactly what I’m doing. If it were boring, which has never been boring, I would think twice about it. But I’m having so much fun doing it, and we’re kind of inventing a new way to do this where we use the latest technology called LiveView Technologies (LVT). We can be anywhere, and we can walk anywhere,” he told the outlet.

According to Trending Politics News, Doocy also revealed that he will keep working three to four days a week, traveling across the U.S. and building connections with Americans from a variety of walks of life. This new format has enabled him to do longer interviews, some of them lasting as long as 10 minutes, which is a rarity in the world of television news.

The longtime television journalist has already visited a number of locations, including the remote Michigan farm of conservative rock and roll legend Ted Nugent, where the crew made use of Starlink technology to establish a broadcast connection. Doocy also noted that the new arrangement provides him with more time to spend with his wife, Kathy, who he has been married to for four decades, their children and grandchildren.

His son, Peter Doocy, has followed his father’s career trajectory, becoming one of the most recognizable names and faces at Fox News, serving as their Washington, D.C. correspondent. The younger Doocy also serves as the anchor for “The Sunday Briefing,” where he regularly interviews and questions administration officials and covers big political developments happening in the nation’s capital.

Steve Doocy told TV Insider that watching his son build his own successful career at the network has been extremely rewarding for him. “I do believe Peter is doing a better job than you are doing,” he said. That’s what Steve said viewers tell him when they see him in real life, adding that both he and his wife share that sentiment.

While there are many news personalities who would be ready to hang up the microphone at 70, Doocy said he has plans to keep going for a long, long time. “So as long as I am still upright and can still walk, I’m going to go for walks with people. I love it,” he said. Instead of staying glued to the red couch, he’s opted to spend his remaining years in the field, traveling the country and telling stories.
