New reports have revealed that the Houston public school system has lost 21,000 Hispanic students due to President Donald Trump’s massive illegal immigration crackdown. And that’s not the only big loss hitting the city hard. The district also lost a whopping $190 million in state aid due to the significant decrease in enrollment.
Houston public schools, the largest school district in the Lone Star State, reported a drop in enrollment of 5,800 students in 2023, 7,400 in 2024, and an additional 8,000 during the 2025-26 school year. The hardest hit demographic was Hispanic students with a loss of 6%, according to information shared in a report from the Latin Times.
“HISD’s [Houston Independent School District] immigrant population topped 17,500 in 2024-25 and then shrank by nearly 4,000, about 22%, in 2025-26,” the news site said. The decrease in enrollment numbers came at a huge cost to the school budget, but ultimately saved taxpayers a pretty penny. The schools are the recipients of $6,160 in state money for each student. A loss of 4,000 students would equal a loss of $50 million in state subsidies.
According to a report from Breitbart News, the drop in tax subsidies is now causing a plethora of issues for the schools and for Democrats who benefit from the support of the teachers union. The district had to reduce office jobs, slashing 1,500 of those, along with layoffs for 200 education specialists, and cutting bus routes.
The Breitbart report points out that despite the Latin Times attempting to make the story look like a horrible tragedy, in reality, it’s a good thing. Millions of dollars are being saved. Needless state jobs are being eliminated. This translates to savings for everyone, which will help stimulate the economy and lead to a reduction in the cost of living in the Texas area. All of that is positive news.
Michael Lind once provided the best description of a Ponzi city scheme by saying that Democrat-run cities rely on wave after wave of illegal aliens to help increase their allotment of state and federal aid. “It is time for the euthanasia of the [immigration-addicted] city — by, among other things, stopping the urban immigration Ponzi scheme,” he said back in 2023.
Back then, Lind pointed out that Democrats all over the United States work toward importing millions of uneducated, untrained, and low-wage migrants to replace the local population. “Democratic cities want to nationalize and socialize the costs of mass low-wage migration, while localizing the benefits,” Lind went on to say.

However, if the pool of migrants grows thin, like when the federal government gets off of its duff and does its job to enforce the rules and send illegal aliens back to where they came from, that translates to fewer tax dollars flowing back to the states these immigrants called, even on a temporary basis, home. While leftists will say this is disastrous, when the taxpayer looks at how the money is now being spent and smiles with satisfaction. However, Democrats hate it because it means less money to line their pockets with.
