Reacher star Alan Ritchson has slowly started to become box office poison due to his unhinged left-wing rants that he recently spewed during podcast interviews that were supposed to help him promote his film, Motor City. Unfortunately for him and the studio that poured millions into the movie, it was an utter failure at the box office.
Add to that the disaster that was the fourth season of his hit Prime series Reacher, which pulled in the lowest reviews and viewer count of the whole show, and it’s clear that putting Ritchson in your project is extremely risky. And yet it doesn’t seem as if the actor has burned through all the bridges when it comes to his Hollywood connections, as the action star has landed another major role.
Sony Pictures, along with director Justin Lin, started looking quick to find a replacement for their newest movie, Helldivers, which is a movie based on a video game franchise from Arrowhead Game Studios. Aquaman star Jason Momoa was originally attached to the film, but he dropped out, leaving the production team in a desperate situation to fill the void with someone who has star power.
According to a report from Deadline, Sony, who refused to release a comment about the matter, is allegedly in talks with Ritchson for the role. If a deal is reached, Ritchson would be one of the helldivers, with other characters to be announced as production begins. As of now, the plot of the film is being kept a secret. It is expected to be released to theaters in November 2027.
For those unfamiliar with the film’s source material, Helldivers is a cooperative, twin-stick shooter game that originally came out in 2015. Players are part of an elite unit called Helldivers. Each player must team up with others and work with them to protect Super Earth and stop the enemies of mankind in an intergalactic war. The game’s sequel, which focuses on Helldivers spreading a message of peace, liberty, and democracy across the cosmos, sold over 12 million unites across PlayStation 5 and PC.
However, given Ritchson has had not one, not two, but three lackluster projects come out in rapid succession this year, one has to wonder if Sony will pull the trigger on hiring him for Helldivers or if doing so would even be a wise idea. After the action star ripped President Donald Trump and accused him of being a child rapist, things have not gone well for him.
His other film, Runner, which was produced by a faith based studio and stars Ritchson as a courier attempting to deliver a liver for a life-saving transplant but alas, a crime syndicate wants the organ for its own sale, only made $11.9 million world wide at the box office since it opened on September 11, 2026, according to Yahoo Entertainment.

Someone in the comment section of the Helldivers story noted that “Alan is a flop maker,” which, unfortunately, seems to be true in 2026. The question that needs answered is whether this is the result of his lack of talent or from his rants against Trump and the Epstein files? Perhaps the lesson here is to remain silent on political issues and focus on being an entertainer.
