Radical left-wing columnist Kara Swisher, who has been a contributor with CNN since 2023 and has hosted the Kara Swisher Wants to Live Forever series, stated during a recent episode of the Pivot podcast that she has asked her agent to release her from her contract after a settlement cleared the way for Paramount Skydance to fully acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company that owns CNN.
Why would this be a problem? The owner of Paramount Skydance is David Ellison, a Trump sympathizer who comes from a family that has openly supported President Donald Trump in elections and with specific policies that his administration has implemented. Apparently, such a connection to the president makes Swisher’s stomach turn.
In December 2025, Swisher stated that she would be bolting from the network if the deal was completed. “I’m walking right out of there the day they get there. I’m walking, and there’s no way I’m working for these terrible people,” she went on to say at the time. Swisher shared similar thoughts concerning the situation when the Justice Department approved the merger in June 2026.
“With the CNN thing, well you know my feelings on that. I’m leaving as soon as I can,” Swisher said during an interview with co-host Scott Galloway. “Let me try to outline it: I don’t want to work for the Ellisons, and I don’t want to work for their handpicked minions because I think they’re incompetent. I just don’t see any way that these people make good decisions and I don’t trust them. That’s it. I don’t want to work for tech people,” she said.
Swisher then said that she has enjoyed working with current CNN staff, including CEO Mark Thompson, adding, “I’m under contract with them until the end of the year, and I’m hoping they’ll let me out early because I don’t want to affiliate with them.” During the podcast, Swisher revealed that she had been looking into her contract throughout the day.
“It ends December 31, so it’s only a few months, right? I just can’t. I just, I thought like I was trying to figure out ways I could work with them in some like licensing way. But then I thought, f*** these guys! I don’t want to work for them. I just don’t,” she said. “I have a lot of regard for the executives there now. I have other things that make more money, that matter more and have a bigger audience. I think they are terrible media owners. I would rather work for Rupert Murdoch. I can’t leave yet, but I will leave as soon as I can.”
According to a report from Trending Politics News, Paramount Skydance agreed in February to purchase Warner Bros. Discovery in a deal that has been valued at $111 billion. The Justice Department approved the sale in June. On September 21, 2026, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with a coalition comprised of other attorneys general, settled their antitrust lawsuit, as did the Writers Guild of America.

Speaking on when the merger was expected to take effect, Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed it would do so by early October 2026. Folks on social media platform X are not at all sad to see her go. “The world is healing. She’s never had a good opinion or thought in her entire bulls**t career. Find one,” a user said. “Oh no where will they find another annoying lesbian?” another user zinged.
