First Lady Melania Trump recently made a trip to North Carolina, where she turned heads for her choice of outfits, sporting a green leather jacket and python pumps. The first lady’s trip was to shine a spotlight on Ashe County’s resilience following Hurricane Helene, which pummeled the area in September 2024. Melania chose a Nour Hammour leather jacket in a deep shade of green that matched well with the mountainscape of the state.
Melania paired the jacket with a subtle ivory ribbed sweater and pinstriped pencil skirt from Adam Lippes who also provided the designs for the outfit she sported during President Donald Trump’s inauguration. Mrs. Trump topped off the outfit by strutting to her car after her plane landed in Ashe County in green python Manolo Blahnik pumps.
The First Lady gave an address at Mountain View Elementary School and then spent some time with the students in their classrooms, showering them with gifts that included an AI Literacy training license and Robotics Learning Kits that are part of her BE BEST Fostering the Future initiative, showcasing her love for children and focus on the importance of education.
“Knowledge gives everyone in this town the chance to move beyond Helene and to imagine new possibilities,” Mrs. Trump told students during her address. “It gives the next generation the choice to help create a beautiful world in the future—a better America. That is the lasting spirit of America. We may face hard times, but we do not fail. We choose to grow like a rare young flower pushing through the cold earth after a storm.”
“True resilience means having the courage to look ahead and move society forward, creating a better future,” the First Lady went on to say, according to WXII12. “For children here at Mountain View Elementary, the storm took away much more than just your daily routine. Your neighborhood was flooded and your school was transformed into a distribution center. For too many kids across the state, the familiar daily routines of classrooms, teachers, and friends were suddenly gone.”
Melania then talked about Assistant Principal Cynthia Harless who bravely drove to the school to check on it during the hurricane. Harless and her family got trapped at the school due to flood waters. She then spent almost a month volunteering at the distribution center at Mountain View Elementary. “Teachers became anchors of stability, and your school turned into more than a place to learn. It turned into a lifeline, providing food, water, supplies, counseling, and hope,” the First Lady said.
Commenters on social media gave high praise to the First Lady for her beauty and fashion sense, with Greta Van Susteren saying her mother would have called Melania “elegant.” Susteren wrote, “I am watching FLOTUS on tv and if my mother were alive today, she would describe First Lady Melania Trump as “elegant” — you don’t hear that word much any more.”
