Catholic parents in the super liberal state of Massachusetts are now fighting to regain custody of their transgender teenage daughter whom they claim was taken by local authorities illegally in order to provide her with secret gender-affirming treatments. Joseph and Arlene Kutzko have both been cut off from their 17-year-old daughter Sophie who was removed from their care in 2024 by Child Protective Services.
According to a report from the New York Post, Sophie was removed from the Kutzko home because her parents would not recognize the biological female as a male. Staff at the high school where Sophie attended class, located in the town of Northborough, exposed her to “LGBTQ teachings in topics that conflict with our Catholic beliefs” which led to the school counseling the girl to transition on her own.
The Kutzkos said they had no idea this was all going on until the school alerted state child protective services, which then moved to snatch the girl away from her family. “We didn’t find out until after Sophie was removed. It came on like a tornado,” Joseph Kutzko went on to say. The Kutzkos have found support from a conservative advocacy group called Child and Parental Rights Campaign.
The report then said that the couple is fighting tooth-and-nail to keep Sophie from being able to receive high-dose testosterone, which goes well beyond regular medical care and requires the consent of the parents or permission from the court, Vernadette Broyless, an attorney for Child and Parental Rights Campaign, went on to say.
“We are actively fighting in court to keep them from really poisoning this young lady with testosterone,” Broyless explained. Neither of the parents has been found guilty of any actual child abuse, despite claims being made that their daughter experienced physical abuse at the home, which led to Joseph Kutzko being taken into police custody. The claims have since been disproven.
Strangely, the Kutzkos have been forbidden from being allowed to speak with their child, which, according to Broyless, is “entirely the choice of this minor child.” The parents and their attorney have been able to block the state from administering Sophie’s testosterone treatments, pending a final hearing, the attorney went on to reveal.
“The most important thing is to bring her back to our family, but a shorter-term goal is to prevent them from giving her testosterone … We’re begging the state, ‘Please, do not give our daughter testosterone,'” the Kutzkos said. A clip of the story was shared by Fox News on Facebook, where folks had a lot to say in the comment section.

“I’m not understanding how the school has any authority over a child’s healthcare superseding the parents….” one individual commented, bringing up an excellent point. Another user went on to write, “Whatever your beliefs are, taking a child away from their family should never be treated like a simple disagreement.”
Someone else brought up an interesting point, wondering if liberals and the school system would be acting this way and taking this course of action if the girl had been a Muslim. “I wonder what the reaction would be if the family were Muslim?” the user said. “When did raising your own teenager become something you needed government permission for?” another person commented.
