Carnival Cruise Line is facing renewed criticism after a massive brawl erupted inside a PortMiami terminal, ending with 16 passengers banned from the company’s ships for life. Video showed travelers throwing punches, kicking one another, pulling hair, and knocking luggage and crowd-control barriers across the floor. The confrontation broke out after the Carnival Conquest returned from a trip to the Bahamas.
The fight erupted at approximately 8 a.m. on Monday, June 22nd, as passengers waited in a customs line after leaving the ship. Authorities later described the people involved as members of two families, although the dispute that triggered the violence remained unclear. U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers rushed into the crowd as the fight spread across the debarkation area.
Footage showed a woman wearing a black dress ducking beneath a retractable line divider and charging toward another woman dressed in patterned pajamas. The two began exchanging blows before several more people joined the confrontation. Separate fights quickly formed around the terminal as passengers wrestled, swung at one another, and grabbed each other by the hair.
As we previously reported, luggage and metal stanchions went flying while officers struggled to separate the combatants. One bystander watching the chaos could be heard saying, “I’m about to skip the line.” Other passengers backed away from the sprawling fight while trying to keep themselves and their belongings clear of the melee.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reportedly said that no arrests were made because the members of both families declined to press charges. Avoiding criminal charges apparently didn’t spare those involved from at least some consequences imposed by the cruise line itself. Carnival placed all 16 passengers on its “Do Not Sail List,” permanently barring them from any future Carnival cruises.
The footage prompted a furious response from a social media user on X, who tagged Carnival Cruise Line and demanded to know how the company planned to stop violent disturbances from becoming a recurring feature of its terminals and cruises. “Carnival Cruise, with yet another fight breaking out in your boarding line today, it’s time to ask the hard questions,” the post said. The user questioned whether the damage to Carnival’s reputation and the safety risks imposed on passengers were worth allowing the disorder to continue.

“Is this level of chaos truly worth the brand damage and passenger safety risks?” X user CeCe asked. “Do you offer hazard pay to employees who must manage these volatile situations? Do you recognize that you’re becoming the laughingstock of the cruise industry?” The post ended by demanding Carnival provide a “concrete plan to resolve this ongoing crisis,” adding, “Passengers and crew deserve far better.”
Carnival said the confrontation occurred in a portion of the terminal controlled by federal authorities and thanked officers for intervening. “The incident occurred in the debarkation area under the authority of US Customs and Border Patrol,” a company spokesperson said. The spokesperson added, “We are appreciative of law enforcement’s swift response and handling of the matter. We do not tolerate such behavior, and 16 people have been placed on our Do Not Sail List.”
