Democratic leaders in New York are being tight-lipped about a case concerning a former deputy police commissioner from Westchester County who allegedly drove her own son to a gang drive-by shooting on June 29, 2026, that was located in the Bronx. The case concerns former Mount Vernon Deputy Police Commissioner Jennifer Lackard, her former ex-convict husband, James Lackard, and their 20-year-old son, Chase Lackard.
Jennifer Lackard, along with her husband, have been accused of driving their son, Chase, who is a gang member, to court for a hearing, and then going around the block until they spotted an individual who was reportedly a rival gang member. Chase was accused of firing off a gun from inside their vehicle, however he missed his target and the family then fled the scene.
The three of them were soon arrested and charged. Now, Democrats in the region are refusing to condemn the former police official “because the suburban city is a coveted party stronghold,” but the GOP has issued responses to the situation. “Democrats are the first to preach ‘no one is above the law’ until it screws them politically,” Republican National Committee spokeswoman Natalie Baldassarre said.
“This thug-hugging mom had no business being a police commissioner and any official who covered for her should be held to account,” she continued, according to a report from Breitbart News. However, over a dozen Democrats were asked to issue a response to the incident have only addressed it in the most vague of terms.
The mother and son were linked to the shooting through a series of text messages. “No one was injured in the shooting, but prosecutors said Chase Lackard is a known gang member and one of the people in the targeted group was part of a rival gang,” NBC New York reported. One of only two Democrats to issue a response to the situation was a spokesperson for Gov. Kathy Hochul, who stated that the governor’s top priority is public safety.
“Those entrusted with keeping New Yorkers safe must be held to the highest ethical and professional standards, and anyone whose actions jeopardize the critical mission of law enforcement must be investigated and held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” the spokesperson went on to say in the statement.
A user on social media platform X commented on the story, saying, “Typical Democrat Thugs!” Another user said, “She was the getaway driver but bailed out on $75,000. Get this, husband and wife operate a non-profit. This is the SOP of criminal Democrats stealing taxpayer money.” Someone else said, “Anyone denying the Democrat Party is a criminal enterprise is a fool, a liar or both,” a user said.

“If those allegations are true, this is an unbelievable abuse of trust. A police official allegedly helping her own son in a gang-related attack would be a massive betrayal of the public’s trust,” someone else commented. “Parents should be charged as accessories to the crime. Great parents. Good job mom. Now you can serve time with your kid,” a person wrote.
