Country music legend Blake Shelton is completing his final season on the TV show “The Voice” after starring on it for more than 12 years. Shelton wants to leave the limelight to spend much-needed time with his family. Shelton announced late last year following the season 22 finale of “The Voice,” stating he wanted to “get away from everything” on his massive 1,300-acre Oklahoma ranch. Shelton told Fox News that out of the many winners over the years on his show, he won “the ultimate prize” when he met his wife, Gwen Stefani. “I don’t think anybody had a bigger win than I did,” he said.
“This show has changed my life in every way for the better and it will always feel like home to me,” Shelton continued. “It takes a lot of work, passion, and adult beverages (Ha!) to pull off a live show twice a week. I’ve made lifelong bonds with Carson and every single one of my fellow coaches over the years, including my wife Gwen Stefani.” Season 23 of “The Voice” kicked off this week, where the long-time host stated he wanted to put more of a focus on family and spend time with Gwen and his three stepchildren.
“If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I’m missing out on some more important things in life,” Shelton said in an interview with People. “For now, that’s our kids. This isn’t about me anymore and never will be again.” Blake continued, “Even though I’m a stepparent, I take that job very seriously. The kids see me as a very important person in their life. [When they ask,] ‘Why isn’t Blake here?’ I take that stuff to heart. I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. I don’t want any regrets.”
Shelton has emphasized the need for a more normal lifestyle with family stating, “I think the only way for me to really do that right is to step away from being committed to something like The Voice that demands a lot of your time. There’s no way around it. If you’re going to do it and do it right, you have to be 150 percent in. And I just feel like those days are behind me for now. I got a more important job.” He also said, “Gwen and I have done so much traveling and touring and work the first half of our lives that now we’re like, ‘Hey, I’m good to put my sweatpants on at 6 p.m. and watch Ozark eight times,’ that’s our life now, and we love it.”
Blake and Gwen officially got married in July of 2021 and they couldn’t be happier together. “The relationship that we have is so natural and so normal. This feels like the easiest thing I’ve ever been a part of,” he said when discussing their new marriage. “To me, she’s my best friend and everything that I need and lean on.”
