On a recent broadcast of CNN’s popular program The Situation Room, House Minority Whip Rep. Katherine Clark (D-MA) claimed that the American people “don’t care” about the socialism label. During the primary races in states across the country, many candidates with the Democratic Socialists of America managed to primary the incumbent Democrats, providing evidence of a major shift to the left for the party.
Longtime CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer stated during the show, “As you know, Congresswoman, many Republicans this midterm cycle are tying all members of the Democratic Party to the Democratic Socialists of America. Let’s watch what Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said about that. Listen to this.”
Reporter Manu Raju asked in a clip featuring Ocasio-Cortez, “Don’t you think Republicans make it easier to say Democrats are a bunch of socialists, and they’re trying to move this country towards socialism?” The New York Democrat responded, “I would have loved for someone like Marjorie Taylor Greene—her extremist presence, to have defined swing seats and made it easy for us, but it doesn’t.”
“I think people really care about who their representation is, and I don’t think they make votes based on what’s happening somewhere else,” she added. Cutting back to Blitzer, the anchor asked, “So yes or no, do the Democratic Socialists of America make it more difficult for swing district Democrats to actually win this November?”
According to a report from Breitbart News, Clark responded, “Let me tell you what I’m hearing. The American people don’t care about these labels. They don’t care about a created inter-Democratic Party fight. They want answers. They want people who are going to work for them. And that is what the Democratic party is offering. And that is why we are going to be successful in the midterms.”
One of the reasons conservatives and common sense American voters are growing concerned about the socialism label is not only because the ideology is gaining traction, but because its beliefs and values are in direct opposition to those the country was built upon and continues to champion. The evidence of this can be found in recent changes made by the Democratic Socialists of America policy platform.
The updated DSA platform includes the abolition of the U.S. Senate, Supreme Court, and the office of president. These would be replaced with an executive and judiciary that is chosen by Congress, according to a report from Fox News. Along with that, the platform will also call for amnesty for all illegal aliens and defunding the Department of War.

The DSA first started gaining momentum when New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was elected in 2025. Mamdani is a member of the organization. He then went on to give a number of fellow DSA members his endorsement, with many of them winning the Democratic Party primaries not only in the Big Apple, but in several other states across the country.
