President Donald Trump spoke out against Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul during a press event, exposing her lack of concern for the safety of residents in her state by pointing out that she’s letting a whopping 7,000 criminals back on the streets due to her opposition to the immigration enforcement operations being carried out by his administration.
During the event, Trump said, “I mean, look in New York. The governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, just announced that she’s letting 7,000 criminals, go right back onto the streets of New York. What’s wrong with her? What’s wrong with her? How can she do that? So we’re able to get people easier, and they’re bad people. We want to get bad ones out of here and get them out of here fast, and that’s what we’re doing.”
This isn’t the first time President Trump has sounded the alarm on Hochul. He also penned a post on his Truth Social account calling the governor out for her total incompetence in dealing with illegal immigration in New York. “Governor Kathy Hochul just released 7000 hard core criminals onto the streets in New York. What is wrong with her? She is grossly incompetent and must be voted out of office!” he wrote.
A prime example of the incompetence President Trump is speaking of is a new law that just went into effect in New York that bans local and state police agencies from having cooperative agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement when carrying out operations to catch, detain, and deport criminal illegal aliens. According to a report from ABC7 NY, the bill is called the Local Cops Local Crimes Act.
State officials announced that 13 counties in New York had cooperative agreements in place when Hochul signed the legislation into law back in May 2026. Eleven of those counties agreed to terminate those agreements by the deadline, however, several counties, including Rensselaer and Nassau, are still deciding how to proceed.
In February, Nassau County allowed ten of its officers to be deputized by ICE and the county has also been allowing ICE to hold illegal aliens in its jails. The agencies are being reimbursed by the federal government for doing so, covering the cost of keeping illegals detained at their facilities. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is the Republican Party nominee running against Hochul for governor.
Blakeman responded to the law going into effect by stating that the county is considering whether to comply with it. This, however, did not please Hochul. “No county executive should think that they are above the law in the state of New York. However, if they do thwart the laws that are duly elected or enacted by this legislature and the governor, the Attorney General will be fully responsible for enforcement.”

One of the most critical questions yet to be answered is whether Nassau County could challenge the statute in court by making the case that the law violates local governing authority. Another issue that remains unresolved is whether the state could withhold federal funding from going to counties that refuse to comply with the measure.
