WATCH: Haitian Migrant Activist Rallies on Behalf of AOC and Bernie Sanders, and the Internet Sounds Off

On August 28, 2026, a Haitian immigrant spoke at the March on Washington rally, where Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, (D-NY) along with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) also participated, speaking out against the Trump administration’s push to end deportation protections for those from Haiti, claiming that the American people are living under a dictatorship with President Donald Trump at the helm.

Taking the stage at the event, the Haitian migrant said, “We understand that this country was built on the back of black people, and we continue to hold that truth. As we see, we live under a dictatorship that is criminalizing immigrants, specifically black immigrants.” The point being made by the speaker is that anyone who enforces immigration law is somehow guilty of being a fascist dictator.

The response on social media was fiery as one would expect from such an inflammatory comment attempting to defend breaking U.S. law. One user wrote a reply to a video clip of the short statement posted on X, pointing out that what the American people want is for illegal aliens to be removed from the country and for those who want to come to the U.S. to do so through the proper channels.

“ILLEGAL immigrants’ keep your facts straight – it’s the majority of Americans want you GONE – do it the right way,” the individual wrote. Another said, “Illegal Invaders is a crime and it’s time to get every single one of these immigrants out of the United States we don’t need them we have enough of the population of Our Own and it’s time for us to remove every single one of them.”

Another individual went on to reply, “Coming from someone who is a citizen of a country which has not had an election since 2021 because their president was assassinated and the country just runs itself into the ground. Poverty and ruin and this woman who probably receives tons of taxpayer benefits has the nerve to come here and demand our country turn into Haiti.”

One user said, “She must be glad all the Haitians get to return to Haiti since clearly she is not happy here-everybody wins!” Someone else noted that a person who enters the country illegally has technically criminalized themselves. “If you are here illegally, you are here illegally. You criminalized yourself by your actions. Come in legally or be deported period. We love and support LEGAL IMMIGRANTS,” the person said.

According to a report from NewsNation, Ocasio-Cortez delivered remarks during the event, stating that “this November, the first of many tides is coming,” referring to the midterm elections and the wild assumption that Democrats are going to take back control of Congress. “The tide is coming, and this time we intend to win it all,” she said.

Sanders spoke to the crowd assembled for the rally, saying he was talking to them at “a very dangerous moment in this nation’s history,” before going on to claim that the rights and livelihood of all Americans are under attack. “Tragically, that dream of a more just and equitable society has never been under greater threat than it is right now,” Sanders went on to say, making a reference to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech.
