The chief spokesman for the U.S. Secret Service, along with two other communications officials, have been placed on administrative leave amid a probe into potential misconduct. Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi was one of three employees escorted out of Secret Service headquarters in Washington, D.C.
The officials also had their security clearances suspended and were put on a “do not admit” list to keep them from going back inside agency facilities. A source spoke with the media and said that the FBI and CIA are both involved in the investigation concerning how classified or sensitive information was allegedly leaked to the press.
As of this writing, the Secret Service has not confirmed that allegation or acknowledged any involvement from either agency. All three of the individuals who worked at the Secret Service worked in the communications office and did not hold a law enforcement position. The agency confirmed on August 25, 2026 that three employees had been placed on leave pending a review by the Office of Professional Responsibility which is in charge of investigating allegations of employee misconduct.
According to a report from Trending Politics News, the agency did not provide the identities for the three individuals, nor did they explain the nature of the misconduct they were alleged to have participated in or if the investigation truly did involve media leaks. Putting an official on suspension during an investigation and temporarily revoking their security clearance are standard procedures and do not mean that any of the individuals involved are guilty.
The Secret Service stated that it holds its workers to a high standard of professionalism and integrity, going on to add that those who are employed by the agency are also expected to demonstrate a commitment to duty, honesty, and courage. The agency would not provide further comment while the review continues.
Many have speculated that the investigation might have something to do with the disclosure of details surrounding President Donald Trump’s trip to Turkey earlier in the year. At that time, Israeli intelligence allegedly caught word of a possible assassination attempt on Trump’s life, which led to him switching planes before taking off from the country.
Trump himself acknowledged that he boarded a different military aircraft after the information was received. The alleged plot against him is believed to have been put together by Iran, a country the United States and Israel are both at war with. Members of the president’s staff, Secret Service personnel, and a handful of journalists departed the presidential plane while he was moved to another aircraft.

The news of the attack prompted a second leak investigation that was initiated from within the White House. FBI Director Kash Patel was one of the individuals involved in launching the investigation. Employees of the Secret Service were interrogated about how word of the operation got to media outlets across the country.
The Justice Department then subpoenaed several journalists for The New York Times after the paper reported on security concerns involving the Qatari-gifted aircraft that was supposed to serve as the future Air Force One. The subpoenas were later withdrawn. Guglielmi worked as the agency’s public face following the backlash the Secret Service received after the assassination attempt on Trump in July 2024.
