Former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard provided a hopeful and highly emotional message in a recent video posted on X concerning her husband’s battle with bone cancer, discussing the success of his surgery for sacral chordoma, which is an extremely rare form of cancer. She also shared some of the struggles he’s facing during his recovery. Gabbard is married to Abraham Williams.
“A few weeks after the surgery was done, the pathologist and the doctors said that they are confident that they were able to cut out all of the cancerous bone and tissue,” Gabbard went on to say in a 3-minute video. “So here we are now, almost three months after, and he started a very rigorous physical therapy program. He gets frustrated a lot because he wants to be able to make progress faster, and sometimes he’s pushed a little bit too far, but overall, Abraham is progressing very well.”
“The reality is that the battle isn’t over yet,” she added. Gabbard announced in May 2026 that she would be resigning from her position within the Trump administration in order to support Williams’ fight against the rare form of cancer. She officially stepped down as a member of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet at the end of June.
“We are so grateful to God for His unconditional love, for being our shelter, for being our peace and our strength,” Gabbard went on to say toward the end of the video. “We want to say thank you to the doctors, the surgeon, the pathologist, the anesthesiologist. We want to say thanks to all of you sharing the most beautiful prayers and well wishes with us. Mahalo nui loa to you all.”
According to Fox News, Gabbard was joined on camera by her husband who gave her a tight, loving embrace. “Love you darlin’,” Williams told his bride, to which she replied, “I love you.” The video then described the nature of the surgery and the various treatment options that are available for the “one in a million type of cancer.”
“Earlier this year, my husband Abraham was diagnosed with cancer,” she said at the beginning of the video. “I picked up the phone, and Abraham’s voice was different. He said that he got a call from his doctor, and the doctor told him that he has sacral chordoma, very, very rare, one in a million type of cancer.” Gabbard said that the couple decided to take the surgery instead of the radiation.
The video then cut to footage of Williams before he went “under heavy anesthesia for almost eight hours.” She then revealed, “His body, as he started to come out, started reacting to the drugs that were in his body. It was tough.” She then recounted, “So that night, more than a few times, Abraham said, ‘I want to get up.’ He had some help from some great nurses to just start very, very slowly walking around.”

“He would take a few steps. He would throw up as he was trying to walk around, but he kept going,” she told her followers in the video. Williams also “refused to take any narcotic pain medication, so he really had to push through the post-operative pain.” Gabbard then revealed that her husband is cancer free and that he is going to be monitored.
“You’ll have to continue to get frequent MRIs to keep an eye on whether or not this cancer is coming back either in the same place or in other parts of his body,” she explained. “This has been a challenging time for us and is hard to talk about. But so many of you have reached out asking how he’s doing, and sharing your prayers and well wishes with us.”

Good news, prayers the cancer never returns in Jesus name.”
