Popular sports broadcaster Michele Tafoya won the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate in the state of Minnesota, according to data from the Associated Press. Tafoya wrecked Minnesota GOP-endorsed candidate Adam Schwarze, former NBA player Royce White, and several others to take the nomination and move forward to the general election in November.
Tafoya received a lot of support from Republicans in Washington who believed her presence in the race would make it more competitive. The famous sports broadcaster is attempting to succeed Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN). Tafoya sat down for an interview with Breitbart News earlier this year, where she commented on the conditions in Minnesota.
“Minnesota is at a tipping point. We’ve had a failure, an epic failure of leadership here, and all the career politicians who are in office or also running for office again aren’t coming to save us. I’ve just gotten pushed to the point where I decided to raise my hand, and I do it gladly because I love this state,” Tafoya went on to say in the interview.
One of the big issues Tafoya has campaigned on during this election cycle is that of long-running fraud, something that has been a hot topic of conversation across the country after several major schemes were uncovered at the end of 2025. One of those schemes included fake daycare centers run by members of the Somali community that used these counterfeit businesses to bilk Medicaid out of millions of dollars.
According to a report from Breitbart, Tafoya called out “status quo politicians let criminals steal billions of dollars of Minnesota taxpayers’ hard-earned money,” and launched an aggressive offensive against outgoing Democratic Gov. Tim Walz, who is also embroiled in a fraud scheme. She also revealed that if she gets elected to the Senate, her priorities will include President Donald Trump’s policies and working toward lowering the cost of energy and prescription drugs.
“We’ve got to lower taxes. We’ve got to make grocery prices come down and help out with the energy bills. Rent and mortgages have to be more affordable… we’ve got to continue the president’s work of lowering prescription drug prices, and again, this waste, fraud, and abuse that is robbing taxpayers blind,” Tafoya went on to say.
The last time Republicans won a statewide election in Minnesota was two decades ago, meaning that if Tafoya wins the general election in November, she would be making history. The former sportscaster also weighed in on the troubling trend of socialist candidates winning primary races across the country, according to a report from Fox News.

“We do not want to see a socialist lurch anywhere in this country, and in particular in Minnesota, so I will do whatever I can to stand up against this movement toward Democrat socialism,” Tafoya said in comments delivered to Fox News Digital after voting in a suburb located outside Minneapolis. “Socialism does not work.”
“There is absolutely a home for every voter in Minnesota that wants common sense, that wants a return to sanity, that wants to see kids learn in school again, that wants accountability for this fraud, who wants the fraud never repeat itself, who wants crime rates to go down again,” she added. “There is room for you. We are the common sense candidacy and we’re gonna represent a lot more than just conservatives in this state.”
