Chris Rock is back with an all-new stand-up special, and in it, he spends a good deal of time addressing the infamous Will Smith slap at the 2022 Oscars. Rock was hosting the annual awards show and Smith took offense at a joke made at the expense of his wife, resulting in the on-stage confrontation.
Appropriately titled “Selective Outrage,” the comedy special speaks directly to the selective outrage exhibited by Smith when he suddenly felt the need to publicly defend his wife from a bald joke despite the well-known fact that his wife has cheated on him.
“Will Smith practices selective outrage,” Rock says during a monologue in “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.” “Practices selective outrage. ‘Cause everybody knows what the f— happened. Everybody that really knows, knows I had nothing to do with that s—. I didn’t have any entanglements,” he adds.
“And for people that don’t know what everybody know(s)… his wife was f—ing her son’s friend, OK? Now, I normally would not talk about this s— but for some reason, these n—– put that s— on the Internet.”
In case readers need help interpreting the selective outrage, Smith was mad that the comedian told a joke during the supposed-to-be-funny hosting gig, but has never gotten publicly upset at his wife sleeping with her own son’s friend.
Pinkett Smith knew what she was doing was wrong from the beginning. Aside from the fact that adultery is nearly impossible to defend, she repeatedly denied the affair was ever taking place. Her lies made it clear she knew what she was doing was wrong and she felt guilt over having to admit the truth. Eventually, she did – and in the most shameful way possible – by telling her husband on her own “Red Table Talk” videocast.
In other words, she attempted to monetize her sinful transgression by announcing it on her own platform. Was she remorseful or just self-serving?
“I got into a different kind of ‘entanglement’ with August,” she admitted, revealing it was more than just a fling. “It was a relationship, absolutely.” The actress claimed that she and Smith were separated at the time.
Continuing on the comedy special, Rock pointed out the obvious horror of the way she revealed the truth to him.
“I have no idea why two talented people would do something that f—— low-down. What the f—? We’ve all been cheated on. Everybody in here [has] been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television,” he says.
“Why the f— would you do that s—? She hurt him way more than he hurt me. OK,” he relates, referencing Smith’s minimal outrage at the revelation his wife had been unfaithful while later pretending to be worked up over a joke.
Rock even admitted he tried reaching out to Smith when he learned of what happened. “I tried to call the motherf—– and give him my condolences – he ain’t pick up for me. Everybody called that man a b—-…They called his wife a predator. Everybody called him a b—-. Everybody! Everybody! And who’s he hit? Me.”
