As the SAVE America Act continues to struggle to gain support in the U.S. Senate, due in large part to the betrayal being carried out by several Republicans in Name Only (RINOs) joining forces with Democrats to block the legislation from going to a vote, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is now urging states across the country to pass the state-level versions of the bill in order to secure their elections ahead of the midterms.
DeSantis made his comments during an interview with Fox News. The Florida Republican started by stating his belief that Democrats are incapable of winning elections unless they import voters from other places around the world, thus they need to have open borders and people in the country illegally to cast ballots for their candidates.
“I think one the left realizes that they can’t win in America unless they import people from around the world who will agree with their agenda and part of that is having an open border, having illegal immigration, and then amnestying them and having them vote,” DeSantis stated in the interview.
“And actually, in some of the blue states, they’re letting the foreigners vote, which is why you need to pass the Save America Act. We’ve done that in Florida, incidentally. So this is part of a larger political project,” he continued. DeSantis also got into a conversation on the topic on social media platform X after a user asked him to encourage federal lawmakers to pass the bill.
For those who might not know what the SAVE America Act is, it’s a piece of legislation that would secure U.S. elections by requiring those registering to vote to provide proof of valid U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate or U.S. passport. It would also require all voters who go to the polls to cast their ballots to present a photo ID to confirm their identity.
“Well, for one thing, I’ve already signed the SAVE Act for Florida,” the Florida governor said on X, referencing a new law in his state that requires voters to show proof of citizenship before they can vote, according to a report from The Hill. “Second, I’m the vice-chair of President Trump’s college sports committee and our goal was to help facilitate fixes to transfer portal, eligibility and NIL, which is being done,” he added.
“Why would I not want to see the work put into this issue bear fruit? It doesn’t preclude the Senate from passing the federal SAVE Act, which they should do,” DeSantis continued. The Senate has failed to pass the SAVE America Act five different times, as Democrats in the upper chamber continue to push against the legislation.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has referred to the bill as “Jim Crow 2.0.” Schumer issued a response to President Donald Trump’s request to cancel August’s recess to debate the bill on X, saying, “It’s a new week in Washington, but one thing remains the same: The SAVE Act is dead on arrival in the United States Senate. It will not pass — not now, not ever.”
