During a recent press briefing, a reporter tried to politicize Hurricane Ian, which is currently hitting Florida, misrepresenting what the FEMA director recently said in what DeSantis supporters regarded as an attempt to smear the governor.
DeSantis fired back immediately, skewering the reporter for attempting to politicize the hurricane. In DeSantis’ words:
“Whoa whoa whoa whoa. Give me a break. That is nonsense. Stop politicizing. Okay? Stop it.
“We’ve had people in here. You’ve had counties doing — they’ve done a lot of hard work. And honestly, you’re trying to attack me, I get. But like, you’re attacking these other people who’ve worked very hard and so that’s just totally false.
“I don’t think we’ve ever — certainly since I’ve been governor — declared a state emergency this early. We made sure that we were very inclusive with it.
“We said that there was a lot of uncertainty and then we’ve worked to make sure the preparations that have been done, and all the stuff — you talk to the people at the counties when they’ve needed something, stuff gets there very quickly because of what Kevin and his team have done.”
The media can't help themselves – everything must be politicized. No opportunity to smear opponents is too low. This reporter misrepresented FEMA Director's words@RonDeSantisFL won't accept it. Governor DeSantis has also highlighted his attempts to get the sunshine state both ready for the hurricane and ready to recover from it, noting that there will be impacts across the state but that Florida is ready to deal with the issues as they crop up, saying:
“There may not be direct impacts in all 67 counties, but there may be indirect impacts not just from the storm, but also from people that may be evacuating to other parts of the state.
“So we want to make sure that our communities have the maximum flexibility that they need to be able to respond to the storm in any way that they need to.”
He then said that there are, ready to deal with power outages as those crop up thanks to the hurricane:
“More than 25,000 linemen that are stationed ready to go once the all clear is given and they are given the go ahead to go and get the power back on.”
“I think Floridians who are in the path of the storm, if you’re not an evacuation zone and you’re happy with your home, the sturdiness of your home and you’re hunkering down, just be prepared to lose power.
“And depending on the severity of the storm, power outages can be lengthy. It may not just be one day where you’re out of power. So prepare for that, understand that that’s something that’s a possibility.
“The manpower is there. The urgency will be there as well. But just prepare yourself that a storm of this magnitude is going to take power out more than likely.”
Breitbart news, proving more details and context as to Hurrican Ian and what’s currently happening in Florida, said:
DeSantis’s update comes as Hurricane Ian approaches Cuba, and is expected to strengthen to a major hurricane as it approaches the Gulf. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is warning of “life-threatening storm surge” for the Florida west coast, identifying Fort Myers to the Tampa Bay region of having the highest risk.
