A former Democratic state lawmaker from the swing state of Pennsylvania has been arrested and charged after FBI agents allegedly discovered more than 100 child p*rnography files during a search of his home. Jesse White, 48, was taken into federal custody after agents searched his Mechanicsburg-area residence on July 21st. Prosecutors allege that the horrific seized material included images depicting children as young as seven years old. White has been charged by federal criminal complaint with receipt and possession of child p*rnography.
White previously represented Pennsylvania’s 46th House District as a Democrat, serving portions of Allegheny, Beaver, and Washington counties. He won four consecutive elections in 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2012 before losing his reelection campaign in 2014. The former lawmaker later moved to Cumberland County, where the federal investigation and arrest took place. He has not been convicted, and the allegations against him remain subject to proof in court.
The investigation began after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received reports through its CyberTipline on June 19th, according to federal prosecutors. The reports were flagged and were referred to investigators. Approximately one month later, the FBI executed a federal search warrant at White’s residence. Agents seized multiple computers and hard drives and began examining the devices at the property.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania said agents conducted a preliminary on-site review of the seized equipment during the July 21st search. Prosecutors allege that one hard drive contained “numerous files” depicting minors between the estimated ages of seven and 15. The Justice Department did not provide an exact number of files allegedly found on that drive.
Agents allegedly discovered approximately 100 additional files on a separate drive. That collection was in addition to the numerous files allegedly located on the first device. The Justice Department did not provide a final count of all the material seized from White’s residence. Its announcement described the examination as preliminary, meaning the devices had not necessarily undergone a complete forensic review when the charges were announced.
The federal criminal complaint charges White with receipt and possession of child pornography. The Justice Department said the maximum potential penalty for the crimes charged is 30 years in federal prison, followed by supervised release and a fine. A federal judge will determine any sentence only after a conviction and consideration of the applicable federal statutes and sentencing guidelines.

The Pennsylvania House Archives lists White as a Democratic representative for the 46th District from 2007 through 2014. His official biography says he earned a political science degree from Washington & Jefferson College and a law degree from Duquesne University. White worked in several legal positions, owned a law practice, and served on the Cecil Township Board of Supervisors before entering the state legislature.
White first ran unsuccessfully for the Pennsylvania House in 2004 before winning the seat two years later. He remained in office for four terms and served on the Joint Conservation Committee from 2011 through 2014. His unsuccessful 2014 reelection campaign ended his tenure in the state House. The district he represented covered communities across Allegheny, Beaver, and Washington counties in western Pennsylvania.
The FBI investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Haugsby is handling the prosecution. Federal prosecutors brought the charges under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Justice Department initiative launched in 2006 to combat child exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to investigate suspected offenders and identify victims.
A federal judge ordered White to remain in custody while the case proceeds, according to CBS Pittsburgh. The detention order was issued during a hearing in Harrisburg on July 22nd. The case was expected to be presented to a federal grand jury within 30 days, and White’s attorney had not responded publicly to the outlet’s request for comment.
