New reports have emerged that embattled Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) is now under an active criminal investigation by the Department of Justice. A source close to the matter spoke with Fox News and said that the DOJ is looking into the Florida Republican, however, no specifics on what the investigation concerns were released to the outlet.
Mills, who is on the House Armed Services and Intelligence committees, has been the subject of a separate investigation by the House Ethics Committee over allegations of violating campaign finance law, sexual misconduct, and dating violence. The lawmaker has been accused of domestic abuse stemming from an incident that occurred in February 2025 and a separate case of blackmail from July of the same year.
The latter involves alleged threats to release explicit images of a romantic partner. Mills has denied all of the allegations brought against him and as of this writing has not been charged with any crimes. In April 2026, the House Ethics Committee put out a statement saying that its investigation into Mills started in November 2025 and was currently ongoing.
According to a report from Fox News, the panel stated at the time that its probe involves “sexual misconduct and/or dating violence.” The panel, known for its secrecy, did not provide any additional details or specifics regarding a timeline when the investigation might come to an end. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) filed a motion in April to have Mills booted from Congress.
Mace’s resolution also accused Mills of misrepresenting his military service, sexual misconduct, campaign finance violations, and illicit involvement in federal contracts as a member of Congress, along with other charges. The Florida Republican was first elected to office in 2022 and was then re-elected in 2024. He is currently in the middle of a third bid for the House in the 2026 midterms this November.
Mills issued a response to the announcement of the investigation, saying that it was a “desperate lie from my political opponents.” He then added, “I am not aware of any DOJ investigation, nor has there been any confirmation of such investigation, and I would fully cooperate if there was one.” He ended his statement by saying, “I have nothing to hide.”
In a statement released in 2025, Mills addressed the allegations of sexual misconduct, saying, “These claims are false and misrepresent the nature of my interactions.” He then accused his former Florida primary opponent of “weaponizing the legal system to launch a political attack against the man who beat him.”

According to a report from Fox 35 Orlando, just days ago, a judge tossed out a lawsuit from a GOP challenger that sought to have the lawmaker removed from the August primary ballot in the Sunshine State, questioning his eligibility due to paperwork being notarized in our nation’s capital rather than in Florida. “Imagine how desperate fake news must be to make a claim of DOJ investigation when even the DoJ has not confirmed or made official statements of such an investigation existing,” Mills said on social media.
