The American Federation of Teachers conference in Washington was far less about educating future generations of American children and far more about how much everyone attending hates President Donald Trump. Union boss Rhonda “Randi” Weingarten transformed the event into an anti-Trump rally, repeatedly jumping up and down on stage during her keynote speech, joking that Trump makes her want to drink vodka.
Weingarten, who has been a longtime fly in the ointment for President Trump and other top members of the GOP, started off her spiel by making fun of the UFC Freedom 250 fight card held at the White House in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, before later making the suggestion that the president is an authoritarian whose political actions drive her to drink heavily.
“While you missed the UFC cage fight on the White House lawn, it’s not too late to check out the tire marks in the Reflecting Pool,” Weingarten said in an attempt to be funny. During a panel discussion that also included former Obama Attorney General Eric Holder, Weingarten asked the panelists what issues or concerns keep them up at night.
“Because part of what authoritarians do — and also part of what Donald Trump does, whether you consider him an authoritarian or not — is the throwing out of so much stuff that people just throw up their hands and say: ‘Oh no, what are we going to do? All I want to do is stay home and’ — for those of us who drink — ‘have a glass of wine’ — or for me, some vodka,” she said during the discussion, according to Fox News.
The union leader, who hails from Clarkstown, New York, then recounted a conference speech once delivered by Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who made a reference to a snake suffering from convulsions as it nears its death. “It looks really scary, but that is a convulsion nearing death. And it’s been something I thought about this morning waking up, because if you think about how Trump looked yesterday,” Weingarten said.
Weingarten also named several conservative organizations that are focused on school choice. She then became increasingly more animated as she switched from Trump and “oligarchs” like billionaire Elon Musk, to her confidence that the AFT would help usher in a massive shift at the polls. “Yes,” she yelled enthusiastically. “The other side has power.”
“But this is what they don’t have: the power of the people,” she said as she started jumping around. “That is not a mere slogan. It is the potential to work together, to bargain together, to protest together, to vote together, to act together, to bring about change — real, lasting, life-improving change.” The union boss then said that the AFT could utilize its power for “good” against “corruption” and explained that when they fight they bring about a better life for all.

“And one more thing: We get s— done,” she said, before concluding the speech by saying, “My apologies to the children.” Weingarten got thoroughly roasted in the comments of the clip on X. “Go watch some videos of Hitler giving speeches to motivate Germans. Randi has been paying attention,” one user wrote. “There is something SERIOUSLY psychologically wrong with this woman,” MAGA Kitty pointed out.
