Earlier in July 2026, the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) released a plan that calls for the destruction of the current American political system by abolishing the Senate, the office of president, and the Supreme Court. A number of prominent Democrats in Congress were caught off guard when confronted by reporters about the plan.
“What do you think of the Democratic Socialists of America saying they want to dissolve the presidency and the Supreme Court? Do you think that would be a good idea, restructuring the government like that?” a reporter asked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) as she was strolling through the halls of Congress. Omar remained completely silent, ignoring the reporter and refusing to answer the straightforward question.
When Rep. Ro Khanna was asked about the DSA’s new agenda, he said, “I don’t support that. I haven’t read the proposal,” which was pretty much the only decent answer given by any of the lawmakers who were confronted about the radical left-wing plan. The revision to the DSA’s platform, “Workers Deserve More,” wants to see the Senate trashed, the replacement of the president and the Supreme Court with an executive branch and judiciary that is elected and subordinate to Congress.
“I’m not a member of the DSA, so I can’t comment on any documents that they put out,” Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) went on to say. The official text of the plan is split into three sections, with the final one calling “for a unicameral, proportional legislature (abolishing the Senate) and a parliamentary system (abolishing the presidency), among other goals,” according to Fox News.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t give the plan her full support, nor did she reject it, going on to say, “I don’t support elements of this institution that we know, you know, were founded on Jim Crow.” The DSA’s new revised platform also demands that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) be disbanded, all immigrants pardoned, even those who have committed crimes, and the defunding of the Department of War.
The anti-ICE stance is nothing new for the DSA. It first came out against the agency in 2018. The platform also calls for other radical left-wing political reforms, such as an “immediate end to all deportations,” and “extending full voting rights to people with criminal convictions and noncitizens.” The organization also wants to ease restrictions on immigration control for migration between different countries.

The new plan comes as several members of the organization have managed to beat moderate Democrats in primaries in New York and other places around the country, showcasing that more and more liberals are being radicalized by socialism. Aguilar spoke with Fox News, stating that he’s “not at all” concerned about the wave of socialist candidates that are complicating matters for the Democratic Party.
“I look forward to working with all our colleagues who run as Democrats,” Aguilar stated. The DSA put out a statement in the Democratic Left, their official magazine, laying out the formal requirements for the candidates to receive an endorsement from the organization. “Workers Deserve More will have a formal role in DSA’s national candidate endorsement process. Candidates will be expected to accept and promote DSA’s program, and align their own campaign platforms with its contents to the best of their ability,” according to the resolution calling for a new Workers Deserve More,” the statement read.
