During an appearance on former late-night host Stephen Colbert’s now-defunct CBS program, “The Late Show,” earlier this year, Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro took an opportunity while pimping out his book to slam Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials. He also vowed that he would be a thorn in their side, actively working against them and obstructing their efforts to deport illegal aliens.
“To prepare for a federal onslaught where they would send troops in to undermine the freedoms and the constitutional rights of our citizens. Think about that for a moment. This is un-American, but I want the good people of Pennsylvania to know. I want the American people to know that we will do everything in our power to protect them from the federal overreach,” Shapiro said to both Colbert and the viewing audience.
He then, unironically, cited the 10th Amendment as the reason he feels justified impeding federal border security operations. “There is such a thing as the 10th Amendment. I believe the federal government is violating that in Minnesota. We will stand tall and not allow them to violate it in Pennsylvania. We’ll defend the people here, and we will stand up to this federal overreach,” the Pennsylvania Democratic governor said.
This is far from the first time that Shapiro has been critical of ICE and Border Patrol. He practically made it a daily habit while on tour to promote memoir, “Where We Keep the Light.” During those appearances, Shapiro commented often about ICE operations being conducted in Minnesota, according to a report from Inquirer. “I believe this administration in Washington is using [government] for pure evil in Minnesota right now,” the governor said.
The comment section on the video clip of Shapiro’s interview with Colbert featured some strong thoughts and opinions from conservatives, most of whom are on board with President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. “Well, we all know he protected the murderer who stabbed that young woman in the back and got away with it,” a user wrote.
Another person noted that the 10th Amendment is designed to provide states with the powers that are not listed as belonging to the federal government. Enforcement of the border is a federal power, thus the governor does not possess the right to impede ICE operations. “The 10th only gives him powers not given to the Feds. So he can’t do what he says,” the user said.
Someone else agreed with the previous commenter, saying, “Another constitutional scholar spewing lies. The federal government has the right under article 2 to enforce federal laws.” Another individual slammed Shapiro for being cruel. “Shapiro is a cruel man. He took money in Pa. from families that needed assistance and he turned the funds over to Planned Parenthood,” the person replied.

“They’re all scumbags. That’s all this is. They tried to rig elections forever by importing vote slaves, and they’ll fight like hell to save that plan. If they win the mid-terms, it’s over. We’ll have lost everything,” Jake West said in the comments. “He’s really not as smart as his mom told him he was,” someone else joked in their reply.
