Roseanne Barr took aim at Taylor Swift during a clip with conservative commentator Jack Posobiec, agreeing with his claim that the pop star’s massive fan base could be used for Democratic turnout. The exchange focused on Swift’s political influence, her young female audience, and the real possibility that Democrats would use the opportunity to turn “Swifties” into loyal Democrat voters. Posobiec argued that Swift was being positioned as an election weapon against President Donald Trump. Barr agreed with him and said Swift had “consented” to speak in the way the establishment wanted her to speak.
The clip came during a discussion about the 2024 election cycle, when Swift’s fame, her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and her political history had made her a major cultural focal point. Swift had already been known for supporting Democrats and encouraging her fans to register to vote. Posobiec’s argument was that her influence was not simply cultural, but political, and possibly had been from the start. Barr’s response showed that she viewed Swift the same way, not just as a singer, but as a public figure whose audience could be weaponized for the left.
Posobiec began by saying that he had already taken criticism online for arguing that Swift was being used politically. “I think, and I’ve said this, I’ve taken a lot of crap for this online, I think they’re using Taylor Swift right now,” Posobiec said. He then described what he believed Democrats and their allies were doing with Swift’s public image. His argument was that Swift’s fan base could become a voting turnout machine if it were pushed in the right political direction.
Posobiec continued, “They’re gearing up for an operation to use Taylor Swift in the election against everything: against Trump, for Biden.” He then turned to Swift’s fans, saying, “They’re gonna get her and all, you know, they call them the Swifties, they’re going to turn those into voters. You watch.” Posobiec said that was the real reason so much attention was being placed on Swift.
Barr responded by agreeing with Posobiec’s read on the situation. “I think that’s what they’re doing too,” Barr said. She said Swift was “definitely somebody who’s consented to speak the way the establishment wants to be spoken of.” Barr argued that Swift had accepted a public role that fit the political messaging preferred by the Democrats towards their ultimate goals of winning the election.
“She has a lot of young girls,” Barr said while discussing the singer’s reach. “I think that’s gonna be the way they’re going to try to get on top of the next election.” In Barr’s view, Swift’s audience was the key part of the issue. The concern was not just that Swift had political views, but that her fans could be mobilized by the singer’s stardom toward political action.
