Taylor Swift found out the hard way that Alan Jackson’s farewell crowd was not exactly as friendly as her usual Eras Tour audience. A surprise video message from the pop superstar played during Jackson’s final concert in Nashville, and instead of universal cheers, Swift was met with a loud round of boos from country fans in the stadium. Once the clip hit X, Conservative users and country fans celebrated the moment while Swift defenders complained that the crowd had been rude to her.

The moment happened during Jackson’s “Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale” concert at Nissan Stadium in Nashville on June 27th. Jackson, one of country music’s most beloved traditional stars, was closing out his touring career with a massive farewell show in Music City. The night included performances and tribute messages from country stars and other celebrities honoring Jackson’s decades-long career.

Swift appeared on the big screen in a prerecorded video message praising Jackson and his songwriting. The crowd reaction was split, but the boos were loud enough that they became a main talking point afterward. Video from inside the stadium showed Swift beginning her message, only for the crowd noise to rise as concertgoers reacted to seeing her on the screen.

As previously reported, Swift told Jackson that she admired his “songwriting” and the way he gave so much to fans through his performances. She said her favorite song of his was “Drive,” explaining that he painted a picture with the song and let listeners into the details of his life.

Swift continued by saying that Jackson’s approach was a strong example for her when she was younger. She said it showed her how an artist could let fans into personal details through songwriting. The message itself was polite and complimentary, but the crowd had other things on its mind once Swift’s face appeared on the screen.

Countrytown reported that Swift was not at the concert in person and instead sent the video message to support Jackson’s career. The outlet also noted that Keith Urban, Zac Brown, Kenny Chesney, and others shared video messages during the event. Swift’s message, however, became the one that set off the loudest online reactions.

The clip quickly became a battle between Swift fans who thought the crowd was out of line and country fans who thought the booing was the funniest part of the night. One X user complained that “these men couldn’t keep their mouth shut for 2 minutes” while Swift’s video was playing.

these men couldn’t keep their mouth shut for 2 minutes like what level of pathetic you gotta be to start booing at a video recording lmaoo
and then they’ll wonder why their lives went to shit(if its not already) when taykarma hits them https://t.co/EZ0631fXPc

Another user lamented “Her getting booed” with a crying emoji.

Other Swift defenders called the booing classless, especially because the video was meant as a tribute to Jackson rather than a political speech. One commenter on Saving Country Music said, “Regardless of what anyone thinks of her, it was pretty classless to boo during Alan’s farewell concert.” Another said she was not a Swift fan but argued that Swift “didn’t deserve that booing.” Country fans and conservatives saw it very differently. Others commented things like, “After she grifted that fanbase with her fake country accent they should”.

Another commenter argued that Swift was “not welcome in country music anymore,” while others tied the reaction to her political image, her move away from country, and the constant media attention surrounding her relationship with Travis Kelce.

Taste of Country noted that the reaction to Swift’s tribute included both boos and cheers, and that the backlash raised questions about why she was included in the first place. The outlet also pointed out that Swift had previously honored Jackson, including a 2008 performance of “Drive” during a CMT Giants tribute and a 2011 performance connected to Jackson’s Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction.

People reported that Swift’s message came during Jackson’s final big show, where artists including Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, and others took part in honoring him. Jackson has been open about his battle with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, and the Nashville show served as a major sendoff for his touring career.
