Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), known for his generally far-left political views that he cloaks behind pretended claims of being a moderate, has been utterly obliterated online for his decision to cheer for Mexico in the World Cup despite the fact that America is playing in the tournament as well, with conservatives arguing that is a shocking display of national betrayal and a lack of patriotism.
Senator Kelly posted his support for the Mexican team on X, sharing a picture of himself in the team’s jersey and saying, “Lots of people out in Tucson to watch Mexico take on England. Tucson and La Rosa sure know how to do the World Cup!”

Predictably, commenters on the post skewered him for it, saying things like, “You can’t even pick a winning non-American team to treasonously support. Total loser”, “very very disrespectful, mark. you belong in leavenworth!”, and “It’s your country’s 250th birthday. Where’s your USA jersey?”
“Why are you rooting for Mexico? I’m sincerely curious. Are you going to be out supporting USA against Belgium?”, said another. Yet another wrote, “I’m happy for the Mexican people to support their club. And anybody who has Mexican heritage. I think that’s cool. But you are not Mexican. Mexico is a huge rival of United States in soccer. Everybody knows this. I don’t know who advised you to put on a Mexican jersey as an American politician but it’s a horrible look.”
Similarly, Clay Travis, commenting on the situation, posted, “What do we think about US politicians putting on jerseys from another country — in a tournament the US is playing in — and rooting for the foreign country in public? Zero percent chance any American sports fans I know would do this.” Similarly, Scott Jennings, mocking the Senator, said, “Modern Democratic Party: wear another country’s jersey and post a photo of yourself taking a photo of yourself.”
Meanwhile, President Trump pushed quite the opposite message from Sen. Kelly’s jersey choice duirng an America 250 event at Mount Rushmore. “In America, we speak English because that is the language of our founding. For a thousand years, that has been the language of freedom,” the president declared, to the roars of applause from the crowd.

During that speech, he also said, “Americans honor excellence. We admire boldness. We respect ambition. We are a nation of dreamers and believers, warriors and explorers, doers and fighters. In every human endeavor, Americans see an unfinished competition. What is strong can be made stronger. What is fast can be made faster. What is great can be made greater than ever before. And that’s what’s happening with America.”
He added, “Show us a mountain, and we’ll just climb it. Show us an ocean, and we’ll just cross it. Show us a problem, and we will just solve it. Show us a task the world calls impossible and Americans will get it done. Americans are strong and always ready to stand firm for a good cause. We treasure justice, fairness, family, honesty, and human dignity. Unlike societies based on class, clan, or tribe, we see every citizen as an individual equal under the law and equal under the eyes of the Lord.” And, concluding the speech, he said, “An American always wants peace and order, but we will never shrink from danger or threat. We will always fight, fight, fight, and win, win, win! We’ve got to do that.”
