“Mexican Batman” Is Duct-Taping Motorcycle Thieves to Light Poles

A Jalisco-based vigilante, who has come to be known as “Mexican Batman,” is now being pursued by local law enforcement officers for taping alleged criminals to poles, seemingly doing the job of fighting crime better than those who are earning a paycheck to do so. It all started in mid-June 2026, when five men were found duct-taped to streetlights where they could be seen by police and early morning commuters.

Along with being publicly humiliated by being taped to the poles, photos of the bad guys show that many of them had whiskers painted on their faces and the word “Rata” or “rat,” painted on their foreheads. Behind the alleged criminals is a large, pink poster that accuses them of stealing a motorcycle, along with a warning for them to stop their criminal activity.

Luis Cardenas, a journalist from Mexico, said that “after the lack of help from the authorities,” the hero has taken down a total of 5 thieves in 10 days. One of the photos, taken on June 17, 2026, show two 18-year-olds were found bound by gray tape, their mouths covered, and their faces painted. A 23-year-old was found the same day. Another man was also discovered, also constrained, with a message accusing him of stealing a motorcycle.

According to a report from The Daily Caller, the State Security Secretariat confirmed that the motorcycles that were left beside the thieves had been reported stolen, going on to note that motorcycle theft had taken a sizable tumble over time. News of Mexican Batman quickly hit the internet and went viral, prompting the State Attorney General’s Office to start an investigation into the captured robbers, as well as the vigilante himself.

Police want to arrest the street-level hero for violating the rule of law, according to the article. The police are continuing to treat the criminals for their injuries, with one individual left bloodied and bruised up. Law enforcement officials say they have identified two vehicles that might be connected to the incidents, according to a report from the New York Post.

Many of the comments on the Daily Caller story are calling Mexican Batman a hero, noting the police shouldn’t be trying to catch him, but rewarding him — or them — instead. “Why are the police chasing him? Give him a medal,” one user said. “If the government doesn’t enforce the law, then vigilantes will take over and it isn’t always pretty,” someone else noted.

“Maybe more Batmans in the USA would help to curb the rampant crime problem,” another user suggested. “Well, at least someone is actually trying to do something in Mexico to get rid of crime, since the Federales are basically bought off by the cartels,” someone pointed out. “I wonder how much they’d charge to come to the US, grab leftist politicians and tape them to poles?” A user pondered.

One user noted that at least the vigilante is not taking extreme violent measures to deal with criminals. “At least he’s not hanging their severed heads off overpasses. Yet,” the person wrote. Another wisecracked, “Mexican Joker has finally met his match!” Another summed up the entire comment section by simply stating, “I love this one.”
