In an absolutely tragic incident, 64-year-old Jimmy Dodds, a former Fox Sports TV personality and podcast sidekick of Jason Whitlock, was slain in an apparent homicide in Kansas City, Kansas. Three suspects have been arrested by the local police department in connection with his horribly tragic slaying.

As background, James “Uncle Jimmy” Dodds, was a father of five and was the longtime podcast and TV  personality who was best known for his work alongside Jason Whitlock. He appeared on Whitlock’s “Speak for Yourself” show in 2018, and he later became a familiar presence on Whitlock’s “Fearless” podcast platform, both of which primarily discussed sports.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department identified him as the victim and noted that it had taken three suspects into custody in a post made to Facebook on Tuesday, June 9, a few days after the horrible murder. In the statement, the police described his tragic passing and the arrests.

Beginning, the statement noted that the department’s detectives are still working on the case, saying, “Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department are investigating a weekend shooting that has taken the life of a 64-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man.”

Continuing, it identified Mr. Dodds as the victim, doing so in a section in which it briefly described the incident. Doing so, it noted, “At around 7:15 PM on Sunday, June 7th, officers were called to the 3000 block of N. 82nd Terrace regarding a shooting. Upon their arrival, they found a male victim outside a residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported in critical condition to an area hospital where he died from his injuries the following day. The victim has been identified as James Dodds, 3-10-1962, a resident of the home.”

Adding to that, the statement described the arrests that have been made, noting the young ages of the suspects as it did so. It said, “On Monday Aaron Johnson, 12-21-07; Mark Elliott Nash, Jr., 6-15-07; and Marquel McGee 2-8-08, all residents of Kansas City, Kan., were taken into custody in Newton, Kan. on Monday, and charged each earlier today in Wyandotte County with first degree murder. All three are currently being held in the Harvey County Detention Center pending transfer to Wyandotte County.”

Concluding, the statement asked the public for help, saying, “This incident is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). All tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. There is nothing further to report at this time.”

Jason Whitlock responded to the news with a fiery post on X, saying, “Three young black men are in custody for the senseless murder of Uncle Jimmy Dodds, father of five, my former TV/podcast sidekick, my longtime friend. My resolve to speak against the demonic culture celebrated as “black culture” has deepened. RIP, Jimmy.”

In the comments of that post, prayers poured in, with a profundity of commenters sharing their respect for Mr. Dodds and noting that they would be praying for him and his soul, along with praising Mr. Whitlock for having the courage to speak up about senslesness and tragedy of his slaying and untimely death.
