WNBA Player Boycotts “America 250” Patches Celebrating America, Citing “Slavery” and “Women’s Rights”

In very unsurprising news out of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), Las Vegas Aces forward Brianna Turner, who also serves as the Treasurer of the WNBA Players Association, announced that she is boycotting the “America 250” patches that have been designed to celebrate 250 years of American independence, and urged the entire league to do the same and drop the patches.

Doing so, Turner cited issues like “slavery” and “women’s rights” as the reasons why she is refusing to celebrate America and American independence on this incredible milestone of a national holiday, echoing leftist talking points like those made by Colin Kaepernick and others.

Her meltdown about the patches happened on X, where she ranted and complained about slavery and the like in a serious of furious posts about America 250 and the patches the players are supposed to wear for it. She began, “The irony of all the USA 250 stuff is that the vast majority of people in America today would not have been “free” 250 years ago 🥲🫠”

Then, quote-tweeting herself and making that point as applied specifically to the patches, she insisted, “Whoever called for the WNBA all star uniforms to have the USA 250 patch should have thought that through considering no WNBA players would have been free 250 years ago. The majority wouldn’t even have their freedom 100 years ago”.

She wasn’t done. In another post, a comment on her quote tweet, she indicated that the WNBA made the decision about patches for money, which is probably true, and that such is probably ok and justifiable, but that she is still mad about it. She wrote, “Yesss I know this was probably a financial decision at the end of the day but still 🤨”

Doubling down in yet another comment about the WNBA being full of “elite female athletes” and “breeder” conspiracies about what they might have been doing when America was founded, she wrote, “We are some of the most elite female athletes 😭 250 years ago we would have been breeders or in the fields working all day. Be so serious rn”.

Commenters on her post skewered her. One wrote, “SMH! I appreciated you on the Fever, but your comment is just low. You don’t have to live here, seriously, or play for the Women’s NATIONAL Basketball Association. If you hate the country, there are many options. God bless America!”

Another said, “Every single nation had slaves 250 years ago. England and America ended slavery and gave women the right to vote. You’re welcome. 🇺🇸” Yet another added, “Today is the anniversary of D Day. Lots of men died for your right to live in this great country and get paid to play basketball. Quit playing victim, learn some history, and go f-ck yourself.”

Yet another wrote, “Ok, and? The league is at all time high levels of popularity and just signed a record CBA. The patch celebrates women’s basketball has proudly etched it’s place in America’s history and social fabric. This is mental illness. Crab in bucket.”
