In yet another absolutely epic announcement from the Trump Administration, it was revealed that the Executive Office for Immigration Review has not just been firing woke judges, as it indeed has been doing at a great scale, but has also been hiring new immigration judges to dramatically speed the pace of deportations.
In fact, it was revealed that EOIR has managed to add a whopping 77 new immigration judges, along with 5 more temporary immigration judges. That new class of immigration judges is the single largest new class of adjudicators in the history of the EOIR, which is absolutely massive, and shows the administration’s commitment to actually speeding up the process and deporting more illegal aliens.
Collectively, that new class brings the total number of immigration judges employed by EOIR to a whopping 700, the largest total number of judges ever for it. Yet further, it comes after the agency hiring a whopping 153 new immigration judges in this current fiscal year, which is the highest number for any year in our history.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, the administration revealed in a press release, said that these new hires show the administration is committed to rebuilding rule of law in America. He said, “The Trump administration is committed to reestablishing an immigration judge corps that is dedicated to restoring the rule to the law in our nation’s immigration system.”
He then explained, commenting on this new class and all the other good work that has been done to expand the immigration judge corps, “Today, we are onboarding the largest immigration judge class in agency history. This could only happen thanks to President Trump’s decisive leadership and commitment to securing our borders. I also applaud EOIR’s leadership team for helping facilitate these hiring efforts and recruiting highly qualified and talented personnel in record time.”
Commenting on what these judges will be doing, the press release then said, “Reducing the immigration court backlog remains one of the highest priorities for the agency. Since January 20, 2025, EOIR has completed more than 1.08 million cases and has reduced its pending caseload in immigration courts by more than 447,000 cases, bringing the pending caseload down from approximately 4 million to under 3.53 million, the sharpest decrease in caseload in EOIR’s history.”
The rulings of these new judges can include such things as ordering the removal of aliens, granting relief from removal (which includes such statuses as asylum or other forms of protection from the deportation process), or whatever other outcome relevant to immigration law is available. Typically, however, the Trmp judges are expected to order deportation in most cases.

In their operations, immigration judges act and operate quite similarly to most administrative law judges, namely in that their job and rulings consist of applying a laser focus to specific cases in which federal immigration statutes and regulations must be applied, allowing them to be subject matter experts and not get weighed down or distracted from more general problems of criminality and the like.
