Making a total and complete fool of himself during a House Judiciary Committee hearing regarding immigration on Thursday, May 14, known radical Democratic Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin demanded to know why Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents cannot “pick up” illegal aliens from jail rather than go on massive raids targeting them.
He, of course, failed to mention that they can’t do so in many cities and towns because of the fact that Democratic elected officials have put information-sharing barriers in the way of federal agents that prevent them from cooperating with the police to do exactly the sort of thing that he was calling for, necessitating the bolder raids.
The frustrating, yet entertaining, moment came when Rep. Raskin demanded to know, “But I’m curious, why can ICE not pick up, with its massive resources, why can they not pick up the prisoners while they are still being held, or right before they’re about to be released or at the point of discharge?”
Predictably, he got roasted online for the stupid comment. Slamming him for the ridiculous question, the RNC Research account on X wrote, “Jamie Raskin asks why ICE can’t just “pick up” criminal illegals from jail before they are released. Who is going to tell this moron that Democrats are REFUSING cooperation and instead releasing the criminals back into communities?”
The American Tribune’s Jason Robertson, chiming in with a quote tweet and example from Minnesota, wrote, “Raskin: ‘Why Can’t Ice Pick up Criminal Illegals from Jail Before they are Released?’ Well Jamie, in MN, the cities and states have passed numerous “Sanctuary Laws” that PROHIBITS Them from working with ICE…”
Robertson continued, “Literally if ICE Calls to say “hey we are going to stop by and grab that criminal illegal with a deportation order” Law Enforcement is prohibited by law FROM EVEN TAKING THE CALL. So then the criminal is released out into the public and the chase in the communities ensues…. Yes Its idiotic, yes it shouldn’t be like this but Democrat Policies caused this problem.”

Similarly, a commenter on the RNC Research post said, “A sitting Democrat congressman, on the record, in a House Judiciary hearing, asked why ICE cannot just walk into a jail and pick up criminal illegal aliens before they are released. He actually said that out loud. I thought this was a meme. Then I had to go online and verify this was real. You think one of his aides would have informed him before he went out there and made a fool of himself. NOW EVERYONE KNOWS”
Also chiming in, another commenter on the post wrote, “this Raskin idiot is going to pretend he doesn’t know how the sanctuary cities that the Hate America Democrats run handle ICE detainers. He thinks he can fool low information voters into believing the problem is ICE and not the Democrat cities that refuse to cooperate.”
