JUST IN: Gov. DeSantis Arrests Radical Democrat Lawmaker after She Storms His Office

Insurrection in Tallahassee? Based on the Democrats’ definition from 2021, there was. That’s because State Rep. Angie Nixon, a far-left Democrat known for wearing pink pantsuits, stormed the office of Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in an attempt to perform a “sit in” protest against redistricting in the Sunshine State. She was arrested, and DeSantis gloated about it.

As background, in response to the attempt of Virginia Democrats to redistrict away four GOP-held seats in the United States House of Representatives ahead of the mid-term elections, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida legislature rammed through a redistricting bill that took away four Democratic US House seats in Florida and gave them to Republicans.

As could be predicted, Democrats have been going utterly berserk about that, and Rep. Nixon has led much of that charge. That anger over redistricting led to a mid-day “sit-in” at Gov. DeSantis’s office on Friday, May 15. Rep. Nixon and about two dozen other protesters joined in the spectacle.

At about 12:30 pm, they were warned that they were violating the rules of the Capitol Complex, which prohibit parading, picketing, speechmaking, vigils, and sit-ins of any sort. They were then warned about thirty minutes later that they would be arrested if they did not disperse. While some of the protesters drifted away when law enforcement arrived about thirty minutes later, Rep. Nixon and a handful of others remained outside the Governor’s office causing a ruckus.

Trying to get in her talking points as the drama of the moment escalated, Rep. Nixon declared, “It doesn’t stop here. I wouldn’t be surprised if the state of Florida decides to redraw the House and Senate maps and dilute representation. It is not going to end. We have to stop this now. We can’t embolden them anymore.” She then got arrested.

Following her arrest, Rep. Nixon released a ridiculous statement on Facebook. She began by claiming that trespassing and refusing to leave after repeated warnings from law enforcement was her way of “defending democracy” and resisting “injustice.”

Doing so, she said, “My commitment has always been to the people of my district and to the Constitution I swore to uphold, not to any political party or agenda. I will continue to honor that commitment by fighting against injustice, defending our democracy, and demanding action on the issues that matter most to the people we serve.”

Continuing, she somehow got even more melodramatic about the whole situation, saying, “I will not allow our rights and representation to be taken away in silence. At a time when people need their leadership to step up and govern, Gov. DeSantis and the Republican-controlled legislature in Florida are playing politics with people’s lives.”

Concluding, she said, “I was arrested today along with outraged constituents demanding action instead of doing the job taxpayers send them to Tallahassee for. I am calling for the release of all the peaceful protesters arrested today and for this legislature to revisit the Constitution they claim to uphold so that we can have representative maps.”
