“Brutally Painful”: Family of Beloved Conservative Author, Host Reveals His Tragic and Painful Diagnosis

While Jordan Peterson once dominated the podcast airwaves and bookshelves, he has been quite silent as of late, and hasn’t really been heard from in any of his forms of media that once pushed him to prominence. In fact, he has eerily disappeared from most social media and from podcasts recently. It turns out, that is because he is facing a significant and painful health battle.

Such is what Mikhaila Peterson, the daughter of the 63-year-old bestselling author, Canadian psychologist, and longtime conservative thought leader revealed in a post online, explaining to millions of concerned fans that her father is undergoing what she described as a “psych med-induced neurological injury.”

She announced as much in a post on X that quickly racked up nearly 11 million views, explaining in it that her dad is suffering from “akathisia,” a neuropsychiatric movement disorder. She began, “We figured out that dad has a psych med induced neurological injury, and has been suffering from akathisia.”

Continuing, she explained that while it has been over half a decade since he took any of the medications that might lead to such a condition, he had a flare up of the disorder that the family thinks was sparked by mold and stress. “It’s been 6 years since any psych medications. Last summer his symptoms started, after a flare up likely induced by mold (CIRS) and stress,” she explained.

Adding to that, Peterson explained that her father also caught pneumonia and somehow developed a case of sepsis as well just a month later, the combined effect of which has been “horrible” for him. She said, “It was complicated by pneumonia and associated sepsis a month later. It’s been horrible.”

Then, describing what the video she had included in her post was about, she noted that medication-induced stress disorders like “akathisia” are more common than might be expected, and she claimed that the industry that sells the medications that lead to them has kept them hidden.

She said, “Neurological injuries from psych meds are far more common than people know. I made this video to explain what they are and what akathisia is because they’re not talked about enough, they’re misdiagnosed, nearly impossible to treat, and hidden by the pharmaceutical industry.”

However, she indicated she didn’t want to get more detailed than that and won’t be giving more updates about her fathers health because of the immense amount of stress it causes the family, and that there’s not all that much that can be done until his health improves. “I don’t plan on making another update about my dad, it stresses my family out, and myself, and there’s nothing more to say about it until things get better,” she said.

Concluding, she added that she would be working doubly hard to raise awareness regarding the issue of injuries induced by psychological medications and pharmaceuticals generally, saying, “I will be jumping up and down about psych med injury awareness from now on as it’s impacted my health as well, and is devastating. Prayers are appreciated still.”
