WATCH: Kash Patel Again Hilariously Calls Out Rogue Democrat Who Drank Margaritas with Human Trafficker in El Salvador during Senate Hearing Smackdown

FBI Director Kash Patel got into a super-heated exchange with Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) during a Senate hearing on May 12, 2026, that saw the senator lobbing accusations of excessive alcohol consumption and day-drinking at Patel. However, Patel showcased that he would not take such mudslinging lying down, delivering an epic smackdown of what he called farcical reports of alleged misconduct.

The Senate Appropriations subcommittee held the hearing to discuss the FBI’s budget when the encounter occurred. When the dust settled, both men agreed to undergo a drinking “audit,” as Patel brought up some of Van Hollen’s own indiscretions involving drinking with a criminal illegal alien. Van Hollen, the top Democrat on the panel, kicked things off.

“Multiple reports, including reporting by The Atlantic, have alleged episodes of excessive drinking, unexplained absences, and behavior that concern current and former FBI and DOJ officials. You have publicly denied those allegations and filed a defamation lawsuit,” Van Hollen said, adding, “So today, as you testify before Congress, is it your testimony that those allegations are categorically false?”

Patel wasted no time declaring his position on the matter, replying, “Unequivocally, categorically false.” Van Hollen decided to press the issue further. “So there have been no occasions during your tenure when FBI personnel were unable to promptly reach you?” Patel answered, “Absolutely not. You can ask my entire workforce.”

“They hear from me at every single hour of the day, as do these great gentlemen here, as do the men and women of the interagency state and local law enforcement, and the White House,” the FBI director continued. “And so there have been no occasions when your security detail had difficulty waking or locating you. Is that right?” Van Hollen asked Patel.

“Nope, it’s a total farce. I don’t even know where you get this stuff, but it doesn’t make it credible because you say so,” Patel fired back. “I’m not saying it, Director Patel. It’s been written and documented,” Van Hollen said. Patel interjected and said, “You are literally saying it.” Van Hollen scoffed at Patel’s statement and said, “No, I’m not saying that. These are reports, Director Patel.”

Having clearly had enough of Van Hollen’s witch hunt, Patel pulled out the proverbial big guns, saying, “The only person that ran up a $7,000 bar tab in Washington, D.C., was you. The only individual drinking on the taxpayer’s dime is you.” He then brought up the allegations against Van Hollen of drinking with an illegal alien gang member.

“Unlike your baseless reports, the only person that was slinging margaritas in El Salvador on the taxpayer’s dollar with a convicted gang-banging rapist was you,” Patel said, continuing to hammer on Van Hollen. The two fiercely battled, talking over each other for almost the entirety of the exchange. Later, Van Hollen, nearly exploding with frustration, said, “The fact that you mentioned that indicates you don’t know what you are talking about.”

The Maryland senator then stated that he was trying to ask Patel about his statements, but Patel interjected again and said that he’d already answered the question. Van Hollen then issued Patel a challenge. “So let me ask you this. Are you willing to take the test? It’s called the audit test that members of our active duty military and others take to determine whether they have a drinking problem.”

“I’ll take any tests you’re willing to take,” Patel replied. “I will take it. Director Patel, I’ll take it. Ready to take it?” Van Hollen asked the FBI director. “Let’s go,” Patel responded, adding “Let’s go side by side.” Later in the day, Patel took to his social media account and posted a $7,000 expense bill from Van Hollen’s campaign to a bar where the senator allegedly tossed a few drinks back with alleged MS-13 gang member and illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia, to prove the point he made during the hearing.
