A University of Alabama student who allegedly beat up his girlfriend learned a lesson from the school of hard knocks — literally — that violence of that sort often comes with a hefty price tag. The victim’s father, a cop from Long Island, showed up on the student’s front porch and said a few things that landed him in handcuffs.
Ryan DellaFranco, 20, allegedly assaulted his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend inside his apartment, located off-campus, according to a report from the Tuscaloosa Police Department, local news outlets said. Law enforcement officials have been keeping a tight lid on the details of the incident, but social media has been used to fill in the gaps.
“He slammed her head into a toilet and was over top of her choking her,” a texter, whose name is Ava, stated in a text making the rounds on X. “She hit him in the balls and grabbed her phone and ran away…He chased her and broke into her apartment,” the text continued. The victim then called the police, but no arrests were made on the scene.
According to a report from Breitbart News, law enforcement officers arrived at her house shortly after the call, which was all caught on video. That clip has since gone viral. After the police essentially did nothing, the 19-year-old woman phoned her dad, a Nassau County Police Department detective identified as Jeffery S. Raymond.
Raymond, 56, showed up the next day in Alabama to confront DellaFranco, which led to an encounter that led to him being charged. DellaFranco was apparently so shaken up by Raymond who he claims “made threats against him” on his porch, that he called for help from the same police department that launched a probe into him for domestic violence.
A report from the New York Post said, “Authorities wouldn’t say what caused the initial dust up between DellaFranco and his ex-girlfriend. But according to the Snapchat messages shared online, DellaFranco was allegedly selling their sex tapes to porn sites. When the victim allegedly found out, she confronted him and he lashed out on her, per the conversation.”
DellaFranco, originally hailing from Georgia, went home after the confrontation with the rightfully angry father. However, he returned to Alabama soon after and turned himself in at the Tuscaloosa Police Department. He is now facing charges of third-degree domestic violence and assault that occurred at two different residences. He was released on $500 bond.

Raymond also turned himself in at the Tuscaloosa headquarters. He was charged with harassment and was also released on $500 bond. Not surprisingly, DellaFranco was part of the Theta Chi fraternity on the University of Alabama’s campus. However, the organization has since come out and stated that he is no longer associated with them, though they did not say when his membership with the fraternity came to an end.
“Mr. DellaFranco is no longer a member of Theta Chi, and the International Fraternity is unaware of any connection between the charges against Mr. DellaFranco and any Theta Chi activity,” a spokesperson from Theta Chi’s International Headquarters stated. “The Fraternity urges anyone with information on these allegations to cooperate with law enforcement.”
