Democratic Michigan State Sen. Mallory McMorrow conducted an interview with CNN on May 3, 2026, where she doubled down on a social media post in which she slammed “Middle America.” McMorrow scrapped thousands of posts following an April 2025 report published by the New York Post that revealed the subject matter of the content, which included a post featuring the hashtag #NYCtoLA.
Manu Rajo, host of CNN’s “Inside Politics,” asked McMorrow if she stood by the now-deleted posts, pointing out that her primary opponent, Democratic Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens said the posts could hurt McMorrow’s chances of defeating the Republican nominee should she win the primary. “I think we all need to understand each other better,” McMorrow replied.
“Trump has succeeded in weaponizing us against each other, convincing us that we are each other’s enemies. I’ve lived all over the country, I’ve met a lot of different people, and I stand by that. Was it the most eloquent tweet I’ve ever tweeted? No, I’ve tweeted thousands of times,” McMorrow continued. “I would argue most people are not particularly elegant on Twitter or Facebook.”
According to a report from The Daily Caller, she then stated, “There is a level of authenticity and just grappling in the wake of the 2016 election of how somebody like Donald Trump could have been elected. And what I know is we are not each other’s enemies, and we need to understand each other better.” McMorrow first gained national attention for a speech on the floor of the Michigan Senate shredding the GOP for being in opposition to child sex changes and abortion.
“I am a straight, white, Christian, married suburban mom … I am the biggest threat to your hollow, hateful scheme,” McMorrow said during the speech, which was a response to a fundraising email from a GOP colleague who opposed both child sex changes and the use of critical race theory in school classrooms. “Because you can’t claim that you are targeting marginalized kids in the name of ‘parental rights’ if another parent is standing up to say no,” she added.
A recent poll from Emerson College showed that McMorrow was tied with former Wayne County health director Abdul El-Sayed. The information was released just prior to CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski reporting that over 6,000 posts had suddenly vanished from McMorrow’s official X account. The comment section on The Daily Caller story did not disappoint.
One individual responded to McMorrow’s statement that folks on social media don’t always express themselves elegantly, writing, “I would argue that most people don’t engage their brains when they get on social media. This includes you, girlfriend.” Another person quipped, “I am beginning to wonder if the real Titanic circled around and hit the iceberg twice like this one has.”

“Libbies will lie and say anything to get elected but once in office, they do whatever they want or exactly as they are told. By contrast, Trump makes a true effort to fulfill his campaign promises. Another stark difference and even more so about integrity than policy,” another commenter wrote about McMorrow’s doubling down on her post.
