Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is once again at the center of controversy after she posted what appeared to be contradictory messages about the third assassination attempt on President Donald Trump’s life, which happened during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026 at the Washington Hilton Hotel in the nation’s capital.
Cole Tomas Allen, 31, barged through a security checkpoint with several guns and knives. He shot one Secret Service agent in the chest, but thankfully, the agent was wearing his bulletproof vest and despite injuries sustained during the incident, is expected to make a full recovery. Allen was brought down and taken into custody.
He’s now being charged by the Justice Department for attempting to assassinate the president, transporting a firearm and ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence. Trump, along with Vice President JD Vance and other important administration officials, were in attendance at the dinner, as were members of Congress and the media.
After shots were fired, the president, vice president, and other attendees were quickly rushed off the stage by security. Crockett, who was defeated in the Texas Democratic primary for Senate earlier this year, made several posts about the shooting since it unfolded. Some of them condemn political violence, with others asking if it was possible the event was staged by the president, Fox News reported.
Crockett stated on her official X account, “The political violence is unacceptable and must stop. I am grateful that everyone attending tonight’s WHCD is safe.” But then, on her Jasmine For US campaign Threads account, the failed Senate candidate posted, “Has there ever been a president have this many close ‘attempts’ on their life?”
“Maybe it’s lax gun laws, maybe it’s lack of mental health funding, or maybe it’s fake… who knows,” the post added. Fox News made an attempt to reach out to Crockett’s office for a comment about the posts, but as of this writing, there hasn’t been a response. During a press conference following the incident, President Trump stated that the shooting proves there is a need for the White House ballroom. Administration officials agreed.
Several of the event’s attendees stated that security wasn’t good at the venue, including Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who called on fellow Democrats to put aside their “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and back building the ballroom to prevent future violent acts from happening. On several occasions, a judge put a stop to the construction of the White House ballroom, estimated to cost around $400 million, stating that it lacked congressional approval, though the judge did offer an exception for “actions strictly necessary to ensure the safety and security of the White House and its grounds.”

Users on X pointed out the lack of sense behind the “staged theory,” with one user going on to write, “@JasmineForUS so you think a secret service agent volunteered to be shot in the chest by someone wanting to assassinate Trump and members of his cabinet? You’re an idiot.” Another individual commented, “How can she still receive press with crazy talk like this?”
