Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) is calling on his fellow Democrats to “drop” their Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) following a third attempted assassination on President Donald Trump’s life at the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. He then asked for Democrats to throw their support behind building the White House ballroom.
Fetterman shared a post on social media platform X that featured a screenshot of an article from Mediaite written by Joe DePaolo that discussed how “awful” security was at the event. The Pennsylvania Democrat then said that the Washington Hilton Hotel “wasn’t built to accommodate an event with the line of succession” of the U.S. government in attendance.
“We were there front and center,” Fetterman went on to write in his post. “That venue wasn’t built to accommodate an event with the line of succession for the U.S. government. After witnessing last night, drop the TDS and build the White House ballroom for events exactly like these.” Fetterman’s words of wisdom come after shots were heard during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25, 2026.
Soon after the suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, crashed through a metal detector and shot a Secret Service agent in the chest, President Trump, his wife Melania, Vice President JD Vance, and other Cabinet officials attending the event were quickly escorted out of the room. People in attendance were then seen taking cover under tables, according to a report from Breitbart News.
A few hours later, during a press conference, President Trump noted that the Washington Hilton Hotel was “not a particularly secure building,” going on to reiterate the need for a ballroom at the White House, which would provide a much more secure location for events featuring the governmental line of succession. He also noted the dinner would be rescheduled.
Simon Kent, a reporter for Breitbart, said that a federal appeals court had previously ruled that construction on the White House ballroom could move forward, after a previous judge had put a stop to the $400 million project. U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro revealed that Allen was in custody and would “be arraigned on two charges.”
Law enforcement officials said that Allen “charged at a Secret Service checkpoint in the hotel’s lobby armed with multiple weapons.” Users on X commenting on Fetterman’s post had strong opinions on the matter with one user writing, “Democrats want all republicans dead. Polling shows that. So putting Trump at risk is the point.”

“They will never do what is right for the country. They have dark hearts. We must stop making excuses for their hatred. Remember Scalise? Heck it started with Lincoln,” the user finished. Another user wrote, “The misconceptions of Democrats, courting separation rather than cohesion, a divided America is causing anger and hatred, the Democrats in Congress do not (apparently) want any accountability for spending Taxpayers money, allowing criminals to scam Taxpayers money. Why,???”
Another user asked how much Democrats need to see to finally understand President Trump is usually right about things. “How many times does Trump have to be right for Democrats to start realizing that they are taking the wrong positions? Thank you for being a voice of sanity!” the individual wrote. Someone else responded to the comment saying, “They never will. Their hate for him is so blinding that they couldn’t possibly see anything clearly.”
