Lots of folks have grown sick and tired of hearing Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, a legendary player in his younger days, go on leftist rants and preach progressive politics, including the members of his own team. New reports from Marc Spears, an NBA insider, made during a radio interview on 97.5 The Game, revealed that the “weight of the job” as it concerns speaking on political and social issues may play a role in Kerr making the decision to leave the Warriors.
Spears also said, “And I’ve heard a little bit that maybe he’s being stifled a little bit in that regard.” Mark Willard and Dan Dibley, hosts of the radio program, then pressed Spears on who is trying to get Kerr to cool off on the political rhetoric. However, Spears refused to divulge that information, going on to state that he wanted to “dig deeper” into the subject.
Dibley, however, had his own thoughts on who might be getting tired of all the left-wing sermonizing. “Right. Like maybe somebody who, I don’t know, signs his checks, if they still do that, or is in charge of his direct deposit,” the host pondered aloud. Spears would not confirm if the “stifling” was coming from a member of Warriors’ management, but he did praise the coach for being a white man unafraid to speak out for minorities.
“I have heard that maybe, maybe there’s some people that are tired of his voice,” Spears stated, according to Breitbart News. “If that is true, then maybe that’s something that could add to Steve’s fatigue as well, because he’s a great man. He’s not just a great white man, he’s a great man, he’s a great human, and he cares about other people. So I don’t think he would compromise that.”
“So, if that is true, that people want him to be a little bit more quiet, I’m sure that might not sit too well with him,” Spears added. Kerr has gone on a number of vicious rants against President Donald Trump on a wide variety of issues. He has also been vocal about supporting Black Lives Matter and is a big fan of banning guns.
Dan Dakich, writer for Outkick, has stated in the past that Kerr has taken way too much credit for the Warriors’ success, ignoring the fact that much of the foundation of the team he has now was established by former head coach Mark Jackson. As the publication so eloquently put it, Kerr started out on third base, but “thinks he hit a triple.”
Some have theorized that the whole narrative being pushed by Spears is false, at least in one sense. Jon Root of Outkick is one of those individuals. He stated in his piece on the matter that he believes it’s possible that folks within the Warriors organization have grown tired of Kerr’s constant activism, including the team’s owner Joe Lacob.

However, Root said he believes that Spears is simply trying to make Kerr appear to be a “left-wing martyr.” Root then pointed out that Bobby Burack noted that Kerr told lies about Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and their actions in Minneapolis, which should be enough to convince major outlets not to hire him should he move on from coaching.
