A video clip of President Donald Trump caught on a hot mic in December 2025 has resurfaced and is once again going viral. The president can be heard in the clip bemoaning the extremely slow pace of Senate confirmations and the negative impact it’s having on his administration and their implementation of his America First agenda.
The clip starts out with someone filming a stroll down a hallway, being careful it seems to not capture the president on the actual video, as we hear him say in the background, “I can’t appoint anybody. Everybody I’ve appointed has had their time expire. Then they’re in default, then we’re losing.” President Trump has, in the past, urged the Senate to drop its blue slip tradition of allowing senators hailing from the nominee’s state to veto any nomination.
Unfortunately, Republicans have rejected Trump’s plea. The comment comes after acting New Jersey U.S. Attorney Alina Habba stepped down after a court found she was occupying the post illegally. The president was asked about Habba’s resignation during a roundtable discussion where he vented his frustrations for almost three minutes about the blue slip rule and how it has prevented him from getting picks he wants.
According to a report from Yahoo, Trump told the press, “And it’s a very sad situation. We’re losing tremendous, we’re losing a lot of great people. We have about seven U.S. Attorneys who are not going to be able to keep their jobs much longer because of the blue slip. Because unless I think I know why they did that, to protect their a**. Okay, that’s why they did that.”
“But it should be done away with. I want to be able to appoint great the most highly educated, the most respected people. They can’t keep their jobs. Because of the blue slips. Terrible. Okay. Thank you very much, everybody. Thank you.” Shortly after wrapping up the press event is when the hot mic moment occurred. Plenty of individuals had thoughts about the clip they shared on social media platform X.
“We know, Mr. President. We have been trying to help you navigate the Swamp against the RINO traitors and quislings in your own party. Listen to the Internet. The Internet made you. There is still time to win,” Patrick Howley, a citizen journalist wrote. Another individual ripped into Republicans for not doing more to help Trump get his picks confirmed.
“The gross part is when they suck up to him and treat him like grandpa then leave and slowly piss on his agenda. 95% of them. If we can’t see Congress has become a foreign aid laundry machine and not representing us we have little hope,” the individual replied. A third person shared support for President Trump in his railing against the GOP for its lack of support and stating that the president would make the same comment in front of the media, writing, “Highly doubtful it was hot mic. He would say that to anybody right now because it’s the truth. Come on, Republicans, do what you’re supposed to do.”
